Did Sir Fitzroy outlive all four of his sons?
[edit]If Sir Fitzroy Donald Maclean died on 22 November 1936, and his son Charles Lachlan Maclean died on 27 Aug 1958, how is it possible that he "outlived his four sons"?? Cornthwaite (talk) 16:34, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
Charge of the Light Brigade - participation questioned
[edit]It appears the only citation referring to him being in the charge at Balaklava is his New York Times obituary, but it is not reflected in other sources quoted at length such as Who's Who (which are British sources). I recall reading a book on veterans of British cavalry regiments that fought in the battle; he is one of those described as not participating in the actual battle. (Some officers and men were sick or on leave and therefore unavailable for deployment.) Those who did take part were entitled to the clasp 'Balaklava' to their Crimea Medal.Cloptonson (talk) 14:33, 14 August 2014 (UTC) The questioning is further justified by the general acceptance of Edwin Hughes (aka Balaklava Ned) who died in 1927 as being the last survivor.Cloptonson (talk) 12:24, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
