SILENT HILL 8
IGN has an article on it, Since im not too good at writing up articles, please google it yourself. if you still don't believe me, here is a trailer announced at E3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BVXG_lxpnM —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.120.79.186 (talk) 03:46, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
Shattered Memories
Hi, I added it to the article. Got my May Nintendo Power quite early, it seems. However I can assure you it is the cover story and all the information is correct. And the Silent Hill wiki is quoting this article, which was written first.
Here's a pic of the magazine if you still don't believe me: http://img6.imageshack.us/my.php?image=snapshot20090331.jpg

- And I should add, yes the UPC is cut out, we sell these at work and I can take one home for myself as long as I cut out the UPC; they are currently on display in our store; nobody ever told us we couldn't put them out when we received them (I even called my boss to ask), so hopefully Nintendo won't get angry (although in all fairness I've been excited and telling all my friends they need to run out and BUY the new Nintendo Power, so they should appreciate the free advertising). Any more questions let me know.VatoFirme (talk) 19:04, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
If this in indeed legit, you should've found a better place to leak the news. Wikipedia's OR policies can't exactly accommodate you. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 02:06, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
- I wasn't trying to "leak" the news. I only realized I got the issue early after a few days went by and still nobody was talking about it yet. And I don't see how this is "original research" considering I got it from Nintendo Power. I didn't make up any "new knowledge". If there is a valid reason for not adding it that's fine, I just want to understand your reasoning, because from what I understand of the "original research" policy, it doesn't apply here. Am I missing something? Thanks.VatoFirme (talk) 02:20, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
- Well, it's been announced elsewhere now, with scans of the cover and the pages inside (which were not done by me): http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=3318, http://handheldwii.wordpress.com/2009/04/01/870551909/, http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26832798.VatoFirme (talk) 20:48, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
- Well, when reliable sources come up, please let us know. (Generally blogs and forum postings don't count, even if they're on "reliable" sites). Not that we don't believe you, but verifiability takes precedence to "breaking news!" (talk→ Bwilkins / BMW ←track) 11:22, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
- Whatevs, the NP issue will come out soon for everyone, and the issue itself is what I'm claiming is the reliable source. So no biggie. But you've got what I wrote in the history. I will be sad and hurt if you don't use it as a jumping off point. :) VatoFirme (talk) 17:09, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
- Is this good enough proof for you? http://wii.ign.com/articles/971/971316p1.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.104.164.222 (talk) 19:12, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
Can an admin please move Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (video game) over Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (currently a redirect)? --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 17:18, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
Many influences...can we add some more?
The Silent Hill games have so many more influences than those listed...like HP Lovecraft and for Silent Hill 3, Session 9 the movie. That's just a taste. Is anyone willing to do some followup?
- If you have reliable sources for the info, go ahead. Geoff B (talk) 23:16, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
Clues about the location of Silent Hill
I believe that attempting to expound on the clues of location, presently presented in a list-based format, would necessarily require Original Research. Identifying each clue as a bullet-point, since the intent of the game designers appears as though they wanted the location to be ambiguous, allows for a quick scan of the various clues.
If there's any complaint that I have with them, it's that each clue should be individually cited (which game, and possibly approximately where in the game the clue is found.
In other words, I believe that this is a good example of the Ignore All Rules policy.
(I should note that I have not played the series. I came here for casual, basic information about the universe, and I found the list format in that particular section especially helpful.) Aerowolf (talk) 23:49, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Proposed merging of List of Silent Hill video games
- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- The result was to keep articles separated. - ηyχαμς 21:53, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
I am proposing the merging of List of Silent Hill video games into this article, Silent Hill. The list could be added as a new section. I don't see why the list of games requires its own article when the two are discussing the same topic. - ηyχαμς 17:47, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Comment - I understand where you're coming from, although it can be argued that all video game series, with lists of video games could have those lists merged into the main article, e.g List of Final Fantasy video games, List of WWE SmackDown vs. Raw video games, because they do discuss the same topic. It's simply a comprehensive list of all the video games, and saves main article space. I'm planning on expanding the main article in the future, so it may be best to have a separate list of video games, like other comprehensive main articles. --The Taerkasten (talk) 11:35, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
- I know that other articles have lists, but they are quite substantial and full of information, whereas this list is quite small, i.e. compared to List of WWE SmackDown vs. Raw video games which has the same number of games, and therefore I proposed the merge, however if the list is to be expanded then perhaps you are right and it does not require a merge. If this is the concensus feel free to cancel the merge. - ηyχαμς 12:24, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
- I understand your point of view more clearly now. Since the expansion isn't going to happen in the near future, it would be best for the list to merge into the main article, although I'm not sure how best it could be intergrated into the main article.--The Taerkasten (talk) 12:42, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, I phrased that sentence wrong, I meant to say ...however if the main article is to be expanded then perhaps you are right and it does not require a merge. What I was trying to say was that if the article is going to grow and the list wouldn't fit the tone of the article, I agree with you that is a perfectly good reason not to merge and leave them separated. - ηyχαμς 18:40, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
- We'll have to see how the article developes, I guess. --The Taerkasten (talk) 18:45, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Forced good ending in SH3?
Hey, I don't think that SH3 is forcing a good ending for first time players. It's about a certain value in the score. I think it can be achieved first time if you're playing on hard, kill all enemies and forgive Claudia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by F4LL0UT (talk • contribs) 20:42, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- Previous user is correct, I believe. It's performance-based. I know because I struggled to get the Good Ending and had to replay it various times!Obamafan70 (talk) 21:12, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Aliens in Silent Hill
An editor deleted the mention I added about grey aliens in the Silent Hill plot. It was a good faith edit, and I certainly understand his/her position. As a result, I clarified the statement and added a citation. It's quite clear that grey aliens are part of the Silent Hill mythology -- all or at least almost all Silent Hill games have featured their appearances. Most of the UFO endings appear to be jokes, although Shattered Memories doesn't. However, UFOs are also summoned throughout the series (in-game), particularly in Silent Hill 1. Thus, we owe it to the reader that "it is possible that" or "it may be the case that" aliens are manipulating the town's events. Notice that I did not include the suggestion in Shattered Memories which is that the entire town is a spaceship.Obamafan70 (talk) 18:39, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SilentHill does not count as a citation as it is based on assumed and second hand information. Also Shattered Memories is not apart of the main series as it is a alternative universe. I was the editor that removed it, and though I do accept that it "may be the case" statement. It is still somthing linked to endings which are not to be taken seriously. I think this needs more discussion to be honest. Would one suggestion be a new section within the article talking about the Alien part of the plot? Rather then including it with the story section? - Chaosvirus —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.108.202.253 (talk) 15:29, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for sharing your thoughts; I agree with your suggestion that it is necessary to include some mention of the grey aliens in Silent Hill. As a player, those were always my favorite endings to achieve. However, I noticed you asserted that the "endings are not to be taken seriously", which begs the question (begging the question). It's also a non-sequitor; the fact that they are not to be taken seriously has no bearing on whether or not they are notable aspects of the plot. Sorry, that's just the academic side coming out. Obamafan70 (talk) 18:25, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
I took the art path in my Masters, so I apologise for that error. When I mean not to be taken seriously, I meant that the endings have had no bearing on the plot of subsequent games (minus of course the endings in question.) For example using your course of reasoning we should mention also that Silent Hill is possibly being run by a super intellegent dog that has assumed control of Silent Hill. On the other hand a few endings of the series have been confirmed by the creators to be the within the canon timeline of the story, e.g. the ending of the first game that leads directly into 3 is the canon ending, also (though I will need to get this confirmed,) that the "good" ending of 3 is the canon end. Of course this only removes the joke endings from 1 & 3, and has no bearing on 2 & 4 plus the other games. - Chaosvirus —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.108.202.253 (talk) 15:29, 25 August 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.108.235.186 (talk)
- Chaosvirus, thank you for your continued input, which helps me understand your position and will subsequently lead to a better WP article. Also, your attempts to keep this article sound are admirable, and I agree with the spirit of your comments, especially if you have cited quotations from the game directors that the alien mythology to the game is part of a running gag. To clarify, my criticism of the article in its prior state is simply that it failed to mention the aliens at all, which it seems we both regard as damaging to the reader. I would agree that there should be some sort of section for running gags and other in-game references that have become important thematic components of the franchise.
As a sidenote (to play professor, again), I regard your statement, "We should mention also that Silent Hill is possibly being run by a super intelligent dog that has assumed control of Silent Hill," as a false analogy. Numerous dissimilarities....(just a few) -- the frequency, length, and number of each ending type, the fact that UFOs physically appear in-game, and that player-controlled devices are used to summon aliens.
But again, this is a digression -- I agree that the alien reference should be moved to a separate section for running gags, cultural references, themes, etc..Obamafan70 (talk) 00:27, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
