NPOV

[edit]

I love the guy too, but hey, "neutral point of view" this is not. Just another fan page. Wikipedia is seriously compromised by this stuff. Y'all need some kind of filtering system to get at least a semblance of npov as opposed to promotionalism into the articles at the start instead of depending on them being cleaned up later. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.193.63.111 (talkcontribs) 03:28, 6 June 2006

Somewhat better late than never, I have tried to remove the POV fancruft rubbish, and add references for various elements. There is still a need for more citations, to support a few of the more dubious claims therein.

COI issues??

[edit]

On January 20, 2011 there was a series of very extensive edits by anon.IP 66.87.8.161. Based on his only other edits (regarding a band which he was part of) it appears that this editor is a close relative of Shuggie Otis, probably his son Lucky Otis. While these do seem to be good faith edits, they would appear to run afoul of WP's policy vis-a-vis conflict of interest. I will leave this for other editors to sort out. "Shuggie" (short for "sugar," according to his mother)

[edit]

I honestly feel we need a citation here, considering the absolutely absurd notion that a longer word is short for something. 2604:2D80:D380:A500:0:0:0:7D3C (talk)

This assertion has persisted in the article for over a decade, since a revision on 20 January 2011 when it was added to a paragraph about the book (of musical transcriptions) “Alligator Records Presents West Coast Blues.” It is unclear whether it was intended to refer to transcriptions of Johnny Otis’s music, or does it refer to prose books the elder Otis authored (which while not mentioned specifically in the article on him but which are in the footnotes), “Listen to the Lambs” and “Upside Your Head.” And Johnny Otis wrote a cookbook, “Red Beans & Rice and Other Rock 'N' Roll Recipes.”

So, has anyone read all three books and can they back up the assertion that Shuggie is featured in them? Or are there any suggestions on how to clarify the meaning of the paragraph? Larrybob (talk) 14:01, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
