Mistake: "The Artist Is Present" should read "Rhythm 0"

The section of this bio that mentions the New York Times comparing Shia's performance-based art piece #IAmSorry to Marina Abramovic's The Artist Is Present meant to refer to Marina Abramovic's piece, "Rhythm 0." His piece bears no resemblance to "The Artist Is Present," but is very similar to "Rhythm 0," and "Rhythm 0" is the actual piece the New York Times compared his piece to. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Meghan713 (talkcontribs) 23:20, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

It should come as a surprise to no one that his latest effort, #IAMSORRY, is not a complete LaBeouf original. It resembles Marina Abramovic's infamous 2010 MoMa exhibit "The Artist is Present". ... LaBeouf's version of "The Artist is Present" has him wearing tuxedo ...(Guardian)
Franco highlights some of LaBeouf's recent actions, including a performance called #IAmSorry ... seemingly riffing on Marina Abramovic's famous and similar piece "The Artist is Present". (Guardian re: Franco's New York Times piece)

The cited sources are pretty clear in their references to "The Artist is Present" and do not mention "Rhythm 0". Franco didn't specify the name of a specific Abramovic work in his New York Times OpEd, nor did Time other than mentioning "the work of Marina Abramoviç". The NYT is not otherwise cited as a source for this information and I can't find any case where the Times itself made any comparison. We will go with our cited sources. General Ization Talk 23:37, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
Also note that the article does not mention "the New York Times comparing" the two works as you stated above. It mentions The Guardian and Time making comparisons, both cited in the article. General Ization Talk 23:46, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

Semi-protected edit request on 10 October 2015

In October 10, 2015, Lebeouf was arrested of one count of <a href=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_intoxication>Public Intoxication</a>. Witnesses claim that he was running across the street and jaywalking in front of Police Officers. According to this source, he will be no longer in Travis County Jail. SmithJrBlaquaLuigi Inc, LLC. (talk) 14:51, 10 October 2015 (UTC)

When making a request for an edit to a protected article, just as when editing an unprotected article directly, you must provide citations of reliable sources that support your edit (which you did not do). There is one here. However, I'm still considering whether this event is actually notable enough to mention in this article. General Ization Talk 15:05, 10 October 2015 (UTC)

Performance art section

I've consolidated several references to LaBeouf's performance art into a new "Performance art" section, which were previously scattered throughout the page, as well as adding some notable details of his recent performances and other art-related activities. This seems like the most logical solution to group together related content, and I hope will help keep the page tidy. Esmeme (talk) 01:04, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

@Freshacconci: I'd moved and expanded the passage on Marina Abramović to this section, giving a balanced account of the resemblance as described by the press and also the artists involved. This seems to belong in the "Performance art" section rather than the "Plagiarism accusations" section, since Abramović is not accusing him of plagiarism (on the contrary).
The Legault allegation does not seem significant enough for inclusion, as the works actually appear to have little in common according to this video (the piece is a group of people in giant paper bags bumping into each other saying "sorry"--so it's a real stretch to call LaBeouf's project a copy). I also can't find any mention of Legault by LaBeouf, Ronkko or Turner (whereas they address the Abramović question here), nor any in-depth analysis or notable figures making this association, nor does Legault herself appear to be making any such claims, so I suggest this particular allegation may not be noteworthy enough for a WP:BLP. Esmeme (talk) 06:10, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

When this article becomes unlocked again, would someone please make a correction to the third to last paragraph in this section. Where it says "on President's day" should be changed to "On George Washington's Birthday." There is no such thing as president's day. No Federal holiday has ever had that name. No state has a state legal holiday by that name. The name of the holiday is officially George Washington's Birthday and has never changed and ought never be changed since he is the only American that has ever deserved a holiday named after him. Nixon wanted to be included so he started to call it President's day but did so incorrectly. Feeding the public false information goes against the idea of presenting correct information to the public, part of Wikipedia's mission. By allowing misinformation like this on Wikipedia we are destroying the public trust in Wikipedia as a source of correct knowledge. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.144.213.97 (talk) 01:14, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

"For Washington's actual birthdate, see February 22." Also see Presidents'_Day_(Botswana), which in "see also" links to the page that redirects to Washington's Birthday. To be honest, mistakes about minor, simple things let people know that there are also uncorrected, identifiable mistakes on other topics that are often seen as more important. 2601:600:8500:5B1:8C3A:2804:2245:756C (talk) 15:42, 13 November 2015 (UTC)

Joined US National Guard

http://www.dazeddigital.com/artsandculture/article/22732/1/shia-labeouf-the-interview

"So the day after I got the job, I joined the US National Guard." It's doubtful this would have interfered with the filming schedule, and he doesn't give any additional details, but it may be worth mentioning in this article. He also confirms that he pulled his tooth out, not just filed it down. This link already has a reference, but the reference isn't named. 2601:600:8500:5B1:8C3A:2804:2245:756C (talk) 16:07, 13 November 2015 (UTC)

Manifesto

The "manifesto" from early 2014 was mentioned at one point but then removed due to perceived lack of future relevance. It was later added back in. However, although it's listed on Shia LaBeouf's website, it no longer says it's by him, either in the online HTML version or the PDF. This is despite the comments made on atractivoquenobello. 2601:600:8500:5B1:8C3A:2804:2245:756C (talk) 15:42, 13 November 2015 (UTC)

Edit: to be clear, the atractivoquenobello interview says it was "playing with ideas of authorship". It seemed that the purpose was to point out that if you pay money, other people will generally let you take credit for inventing or writing something. See for example the fact that a number (not sure how many) of popular songs are written by someone else, and then sold to whoever is seen in popular culture as having created it. Example, Run Devil Run (Girls' Generation song). So "plagiarism", in this sense, is not a matter of accurate representation of creative talent, but just a monetary issue. But whoever has edited the section entitled "Plagiarism accusations" did not see fit to mention the manifesto, as they apparently did not realize the relevance. 2601:600:8500:5B1:8C3A:2804:2245:756C (talk) 15:53, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
Current source article, "Shia LaBeouf collaborator: I don’t think you need a sign saying ‘Don’t murder the artist’" does connect the manifesto to the 'plagiarism' controversy, but says, "In his 2011 Metamodernist Manifesto – the authorship of which was later attributed to LaBeouf in another nod to his plagiarism scandal – Turner writes that [...]". The article writer seems to think that it was simply, "oh haha, Shia LaBeouf is claiming credit for another thing he did not originate". The atractivoquenobello interview talks about "people in the 'States'" taking the manifesto too seriously, or people viewing it—or the fact that Shia LaBeouf was given credit for it—as entirely ironical. It also talks about the "media" world being unsure if recent actions are within the domain of the news media, and the "art" world being unsure if they are within the domain of art. However, it doesn't seem that this interview clarified whether either view was incorrect. It could be argued that, in the style of Death of the Author, the author of the Guardian article did not make a mistake. 2601:600:8500:5B1:8C3A:2804:2245:756C (talk) 19:44, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
But the original website had "by shia labeouf" removed sometime between 2014-09-06 and 2014-10-21. (The favicon, attribution at the bottom, email address, PDF version, and website link were changed at earlier times.) If this is accurate, then the screenshot on Shia LaBeouf's website was consistent with how the site had appeared from mid-January to probably 21 Oct 2014, but was inconsistent with how the site appeared when the screenshot was made public. This could have made Shia LaBeouf seem 'dishonest'. However, this contradiction no longer exists. 2601:600:8500:5B1:8C3A:2804:2245:756C (talk) 20:53, 13 November 2015 (UTC)

The collaborative artwork is already detailed in the LaBeouf, Rönkkö & Turner entry. As the artists themselves have made clear [1] it appears to be frequently misreported as a one-man rally by LaBeouf, instead of a participatory artwork by the trio. Also, I've seen conflicting reports in the media about it and 4chan's involvement, so I would suggest caution. Esmeme (talk) 14:50, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

Marriage's validity

Look, it's common sense that a marriage record is public but that doesn't mean any of us are going to not only pay the fee to obtain one or go searching for a non-existent license. I'm not saying the wedding was a "publicity stunt", but simply the license wasn't made.Trillfendi (talk) 03:07, 14 October 2016 (UTC)

I don't understand what "unofficially marry" means. You're married or you're not. There are different types of marriage but it's an either/or thing. Is LaBeouf married or not? 98.10.165.90 (talk) 18:28, 10 December 2016 (UTC)

  • Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi why have you re-added such blatant fluff? Some of the relationship material is garbage, some sourced to the Mail..
Of that relationship he said: "I still love her. I think she's a fucking awesome person and an incredible actress. We're still pals. I wouldn't take any of it back, and I don't think she would either. It just ran its course."
In the August 2011 issue of Details magazine, he stated he had a relationship with actresses Isabel Lucas, while she was still dating Adrian Grenier, and Megan Fox, while she was still seeing her now-husband Brian Austin Green.[1] After years of intermittent relationship [...][2]
In June 2011, in an interview in Details magazine, he claimed that he and Lucas were "philandering around" before the accident occurred.[3]
  • LaBeouf has been arrested a zillion times already, are these petty incidents worth mentioning?:
Early in the morning of November 4, 2007, a security guard asked LaBeouf to leave a Chicago Walgreens, which LaBeouf refused to do. LaBeouf was arrested for misdemeanor criminal trespassing.[4] The criminal charges were dropped on December 12, 2007.[5]
In March 2008, police issued an arrest warrant for LaBeouf after he failed to make a court appearance, which had been in relation to a ticket he had received for unlawful smoking in Burbank, California, in February 2008. When neither LaBeouf nor a lawyer appeared at the court at the 8:30 a.m. hearing, a $1000 bench warrant was issued for his arrest.[6] However, the court commissioner in California recalled this warrant on March 19, 2008, after the actor's attorney arrived a day late to plead not guilty on LaBeouf's behalf, and a pre-trial hearing was set for April 24, 2008.[7] The charge was dismissed, after the actor paid a $500 fine.[8]
In the early hours of February 5, 2011, he was involved in an altercation with another patron at the Mad Bull's Tavern bar in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood of Los Angeles, which resulted in the actor getting punched in the face.[9] Both LaBeouf and the unnamed patron were placed in handcuffs and questioned by a Los Angeles Police Department officer but later released with no arrest being made.[10] In 2014, LaBeouf was banned from The Local Peasant restaurant in Sherman Oaks after urinating on the wall.[11]
  • and why is this important?:
In 2015, LaBeouf endorsed Jeremy Corbyn's campaign in the Labour Party leadership election. He told London Evening Standard at Soho House Toronto: "I like Jeremy Corbyn. I like him in every way. British politics just got very exciting."[12][13]

I have some concerns about this. Firstly, IMDb isn't the best source, per WP:RS/IMDb. Also, the list of films is already pretty extensive; is there a way this film is particularly significant for LaBeouf, or can we maybe add this in place of a less significant film? DonIago (talk) 19:35, 11 May 2020 (UTC)

@Doniago: I have no opinions about the way the list is formatted. There is a filmography section already, so perhaps not so much needs to be added to the lede. But with how it was formatted, this was a reasonable edit request. I’d take a look at the consensus for other actors’ pages as a starting point if you want to do some reformatting. Per WP:Citing IMDB#Disputed uses, the use of cast lists for released movies is a potentially valid use of IMBD. I think it is sufficient for a simple actor credit for film that was released a while ago. But you can find another source and change it if you want; you could cite the movie itself (based on the credits), for example. — Tartan357  (Talk) 07:32, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

there is no mention in the article about his racist rant. it was here last time i looked, but now ctrl+f racis reveals 0 matches. there's plenty of coverage in the media including this more or less complete video, and there's even a "controversies" section, so i am not sure i understand the omission of this, unless someone, maybe a fan, is censoring the article. 173.87.169.234 (talk) 23:42, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

On July 8, 2017, LaBeouf was arrested in downtown Savannah, Georgia at around 4 a.m. for public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and obstruction.[123] After pleading no contest to the charge of disorderly conduct in October 2017, LaBeouf was found guilty of obstruction but was found not guilty of public intoxication.[124] He was sentenced to probation for one year, including time served, and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine as well as seek therapy to manage his anger and substance use issues.[124]

Proposed paragraph from October 2017 version (linked above)

On July 8, 2017, around 4 a.m. LaBeouf was arrested in Savannah, Georgia, for public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and obstruction. The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, released him after he posted a $7,000 bond.[1] A bodycam footage was later released of LeBeouf making racial remarks towards police officers during his arrest. His remarks included saying to one officer, "You're going straight to hell..." and then stating "because he's a black man" when asked why by his partner. LaBeouf later apologized for his remarks citing his alcohol addiction as the reason for his outburst.[2][better source needed]

Name etymology

The Cajun father explains the French-like name, but it does not explain how what must have been the original family name (Lebœuf) got butchered into LaBeouf. Can anyone shed light on this? Urhixidur (talk) 02:30, 20 August 2019 (UTC)

Cajun French does not follow the typical rules of traditional French (nor does Canadian French). It was likely a way of anglicizing the name to make it easier to document, as is the case with thousands of surnames. (I am a genealogist with French Canadian ancestry.) This article should be removed from “Judaism project”

Just wanted to point out, in the past he somewhat (not really) identified as “jewish” and has since said he identified as Christian alone. So no, he does not identify as jewish and the article does not fit the project. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.18.9.194 (talk) 03:09, 11 April 2022 (UTC)

The article currently includes a sourced statement that LaBeouf has described himself as Jewish. If you want to claim that's no longer the case, then you'll need to provide sourced information to that effect. DonIago (talk) 04:09, 11 April 2022 (UTC)
I do see that further down it looks like LaBeouf may have changed his mind regarding his Judaism...but even so, that doesn't necessarily mean that this article shouldn't be considered of interest to the project. DonIago (talk) 04:14, 11 April 2022 (UTC)
As far as I can tell WikiProject Judaism has more to do with religion and culture more nebulously. Not so much for biographies of people whose notability is not connected to their Jewish heritage. For me I rarely tag biographical articles in that wikiproject, perhaps I would if it was a rabbi or something. Dan Carkner (talk) 04:29, 11 April 2022 (UTC)
That's a fair point, though I don't know enough about the project to comment one way or another. FWIW I don't have any strong feelings on the article being tagged under the project (at this time), but I did think some discussion was warranted. DonIago (talk) 17:13, 11 April 2022 (UTC)

We all agree that the project should be removed but flight time idiotically reverted my edit sadly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.18.9.194 (talk) 23:15, 18 April 2022 (UTC)

No personal attacks, please. The Crab Who Played With The Sea (talk) 23:53, 18 April 2022 (UTC)
I don't see anyone agreeing on that. If you have a concern with FlightTime (talk · contribs)'s revert of your edit, the appropriate thing to do is tag them and ask them why they reverted you, as I've just done. DonIago (talk) 02:42, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
