[edit]Is the Navy Cross a significant allocade? Seems like an assertion of importance to me. Skomorokh 05:16, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- This essay, WP:MILMOS#NOTE, on the notability of military personnel says that someone who receives the country's highest honor is notable. The Navy Cross is #2 on the list for the US Navy. So the Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history does not consider them automatically notable. I would think they would be notable if there was something other than the event that they were awarded the Navy Cross for. In this case that seems to be the only thing he has going for him. - Thanks for the reply, that's very helpful. As it is a very high honour in the most important military in the world, I think it qualifies as an assertion of importance. Notability, as you note, is a different matter that can be assessed at WP:AfD if necessary. Mahalo, Skomorokh 12:43, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- I agree with your assessment. If someone doesn't think he is notable enough for an article then they can nominate it at AFD. --A new name 2008 (talk) 12:51, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- Looks okay to me. When I tagged it I did not appreciate the significance of the decoration. --TS 13:23, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Shane Patton did not receive a Navy Cross. The post is erroneous. The only individuals to receive the Navy Cross for actions during Operation Redwing were Danny Dietz, Matthew Axelson and Marcus Luttrell, the men who actually undertook the mission (the officer in charge, Michael P. Murphy, earned the Medal of Honor). Patton was awarded a Bronze Star with Valor device. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.132.198.174 (talk) 22:43, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
Redirect
[edit]I have redirected the page to the operation where he was killed. With the new information that he received the Bronze star with Valor, I don't think he meets notability guidelines but we can leave the article as a redirect. ~~ GB fan ~~ talk 19:54, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- @DeadlyRampage26, I've redirected the page. I think a stand alone article article won't meet WP:BLP1E and WP:GNG. Feel free to ping me if you have questions or revert the change if you believe that I'm wrong. Justiyaya 05:47, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
