Content
[edit]The article currently defines sexual sublimation as "the attempt to transform sexual energy into among some religious traditions to transform sexual energy into creativity, thereby facilitating a mystical awakening." Although this is one definition, I feel we need a broader definition that removes the spiritual component. For example, sexual submlimation could be used to increase productivity, which has no relevance to spirituality. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.64.99.112 (talk) 01:22, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
Quotes
[edit]Please note that the idea of having a quotes section has been deprecated. It is no longer considered good form to have a quotes section. Please see WP:QUOTE, which recommends that all quotes be summarized in the article with the sources listed as references. Thanks. I will happily remove the whole quotes section soon if work is not started to integrate this material into the article. -999 (Talk) 16:28, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, obviously this article is still in its infancy. The quotes will be integrated when I (or someone else) have the time to do so. --Paul Stone 12:28, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
Name change
[edit]I feel strongly that the name of this article should be returned back to 'Sexual transmutation.' Those who were involved with AfD discussion that led to the name change to Sexual sublimation were simply not informed about the topic and were taking best guesses. Indeed if I did not write in the first sentence of the article that sexual transmutation is also sometimes referred to sexual sublimation, I doubt the commentors would have even known of the alternate title. And, in reality, only one user asked for a move; I should have stated then that such a move is unnecessary and somewhat confusing but I did not think the article was actually going to have its name changed. Here is a quote from Gurudeva (Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami): "It is very interesting to note that very little is known publicly and taught in schools regarding the transmutation of the sex force. Modern psychologists often speak of "sublimation," which is, of course, a step in the right direction towards transmutation.."[1] Here Gurudeva is making a clear differencation between sublimation and transmutation. Sublimation has connotations with Freudian psychology which may or may not be directly related with the content of this article, depending upon how one interprets the idea. Sexual transmutation is a very specific practice, while here on Wikipedia Sublimation (psychology) is described as a 'coping mechanism.' Gurudeva is (was) a qualified expert on these matters, therefore unless someone brings up compelling counter-argument in the next few days, the name of the article will be reverted. --Paul Stone 17:40, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- Just be aware that if you do so, the article is much more likely to be nominated for deletion again. Sexual transmutation gets only 1,960 Google hits, which would put it in the non-notable category for many editors. Sexual sublimation gets 3,470 Ghits, which is not many either but more likely to be kept... -999 (Talk) 17:50, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- Perhaps its not worth the hassle then. --Paul Stone 14:09, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- Swami Sivananda, for example, would sometimes use the term "sublimation" in his works. Better let the article be where it's best found. --Raga 00:38, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
Lack of detail on Freud's thoughts on sublimation
[edit]Add more please, I'd appreciate it.

Celibacy ?
[edit]Maybe the article should also refer to celibacy instead of only mentioning religious reasons ?

Hi! Please be bold and write about sexual sublimation and celibacy - if you have a good reference. Lova Falk talk 17:08, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Merge
[edit]I've been bold and merged this article with sublimation proper, and I will be hashing out that article a bit better. The information listed here belongs there, and maybe a wider write-up can be made with regards to transmutation and perhaps eventually a separate page can be made but I think a write up over there will suit the topic much better - as long as we explain the connection and the differences, which I am sensitive to.--Cpt ricard (talk) 07:44, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
