Isn't this just a Vapor–liquid separator? Why the separate articles then?--عبد المؤمن (talk) 01:12, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]


In my opinion, they are two different things. There are two types of separator used in oil production; 2-phase separator and 3-phase separator. 2-phase separators are used for separating well fluids (coming from oil and gas wellheads) into gaseous and liquid (oil & water) components. As for 3-phase separators, they are used to separate the well fluids into 3 different components; oil, water and gas! From my understanding, this Vapor-liquid separator is not entirely the same as a separator. However, it does resembles a 2-phase separator but not for 3-phase. Hence, it is not entirely the same as a 3-phase separator. (Source: I work in an oil and gas industry for my course's attachment.
