Expansion needed
[edit]This article is far too cursory for such an important topic. I've added some possible sources under Self#Further reading; please feel free to add further sources and especially draw on these to expand the article. hgilbert (talk) 13:28, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
Proper use of vocabulary is somewhat neccessary for my thorough comorehension. Eagletreefeatherwood (talk) 00:57, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
Questions on 'self'.
[edit]Re; Discussion ‘self’. Expansion needed 28/1/2011 I agree. The article is cursory, but there are many more important topics to be discussed before the ‘self’ can be fully and easily understood. I propose that you ask questions of interest to you relating to the ‘self’ and I shall try to answer them. KK (78.146.76.251 (talk) 13:03, 8 March 2011 (UTC))
- Why is it you in english but yo is I in Spanish. Please explain this. 192.173.6.125 (talk) 02:41, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- Self doesn't exist and being a constructed self trapped in a physical form is slavery. 2D Is Better Than 3D (talk) 15:27, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
Move discussion in progress
[edit]There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Selves (disambiguation) which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 05:02, 12 February 2018 (UTC)
Does the awareness/sense of selfhood come before personhood?
We must extrapolate on that. The article is incomplete. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:587:4101:6100:5CC1:5832:312D:8673 (talk) 16:08, 14 February 2019 (UTC)
Change lead sentence
[edit]Change from: The self is an individual person as the object of his or her own reflective consciousness.
Change to: Self is the experience of one's own knowledge and behavior.
...This change is unencumbered encyclopedic prose; the original is encumbered talk...go for the consensus.Arnlodg (talk) 00:00, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
- I've done some rewriting of the article. I am totally open to changing the firs sentence, if we can find a good definition? Editor2020 (talk) 02:15, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
- The experience of being present...Arnlodg (talk) 02:05, 16 June 2019 (UTC)
...Rephrased lead sentences: "objective and reflexive, from and for", cited and referenced; Self is philosophy first, then we can apply it, itself, to any subject.Arnlodg (talk) 16:53, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
- Arnlodg we have been here too many times before. Properly referenced proposals are always but not stream of consciousness stuff -----Snowded TALK 06:32, 21 December 2019 (UTC)
More Balance in Topics
[edit]I thought this article was pretty well-rounded as a whole, but I do think that there should be more information balancing out the different sections of the article. There was a lot of information on the sociology of self, but I think that either it should be cut down some, or the other sections should have more information.JPmar405 (talk) 01:54, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
Sociology?
[edit]Why is 90% of the sociology section taken up with the work of two psychologists? And why is this discussion of their work so long? Retinalsummer (talk) 15:54, 23 July 2022 (UTC)
