subsp. or var.?
[edit]24.222.188.147 changed the binomial name from B. vulgaris subsp. maritima to B. vulgaris var. maritima. I've changed it back, largely because Google gives 74 hits for the "var" form, 372 for the "subsp" form, and 771 for "ssp". This suggests some kind of consesnus in favour of its being a subspecies rather than a variety, but a botanist might be able to cite a definitive source. --bjh21 16:03, 22 September 2005 (UTC)
Its more a question of where the hits come form on google - the subsp gets hits to the USDA which must be some comfort. GraemeLeggett 16:13, 22 September 2005 (UTC)
contradiction
[edit]the main beet page claims that sea beets are not the true ancestral form of domestic beets. Someone should fix this, ideally, someone who, unlike me, has knowledge sufficient to determine which page is correct. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.106.113.106 (talk) 02:43, 21 April 2007 (UTC).
