Flag
[edit]This article implies that the defaced ensign is the flag of UK Sea Scouts. However, the defaced ensign should only be flown by Royal Navy Recognised Sea Scouts. This should be clarified. See the rules on the Scout Association's resource web site: http://www.scoutbase.org.uk/library/hqdocs/por/2006/chapter_12.htm —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.169.147.117 (talk) 11:38, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
- Looks to me like this is clearly discussed in the section Royal Navy Recognition. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 13:59, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, I meant to say that having the defaced ensign at the top of the page implies that it is the flag of UK Sea Scouts rather than RN Recognised Sea Scouts. 80.169.147.117 (talk) 12:01, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- I added a caption to the image- let me know if this is correct. BTW- "defaced" pretty much means vandalized in U.S. English. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 13:00, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- That looks fine now. Generally defaced does refer to vandalism, but in this instance is used to refer to a flag that has been changed to include a particular logo or design. The original flag is the Red Ensign and the Royal Navy has given permission for RN Recognised Scouts to include the Scout logo on it. 80.169.147.117 (talk) 11:52, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
Rename
[edit]Proper name is Sea Scouts and should disambiguate to The Scout Association. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 18:53, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
Discuss:
- I think it should be Sea Scouting (The Scout Association) similar to the BSA Sea scouting article. --Bduke (talk) 21:46, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- I would agree with you if I could find a reference. I poked around ScoutBase quite a bit and can't lock it down either way. Programme references are to Beaver Scouts, Scouts, Sea Scouts and so on, and then it will mention Scouting, Explorer Scouting, etc. I can't find a formal style guide. The BSA is more explicit both on their website [1] and their style guide [2]. I have no preference here— it just needs to be cleaned up and we need to use the same naming on all of the sections: Beaver Scouting, Scouting, Explorer Scouting. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 22:12, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
