Merge discussion

- The result of this discussion was to Merge. 2011 merger proposal had consensus but not enacted. Essentially, entire text oved to chronological position in this article. Please excuse any errors resulting from my lack of motorsports expertise. The proposed pagemove is a separate issue to the merge. Euryalus (talk) 05:40, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
Scuderia Coloni and Enzo Coloni Racing Car Systems are the same company aren't they? There seems no reason to split up its various activities into two articles, especially at an arbitrary point in time. Neither article is so big as to require the split. If no-one has any objections, I'll merge the two. Cheers. 4u1e (talk) 04:17, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
- Although I understand your reason for suggesting this, and agree with it in principle, there is a slight complication. The Scuderia Coloni page was previously at Fisichella Motor Sport. I think this is how we've ended up with two separate pages. I moved Fisichella Motor Sport to Coloni Motorsport when the GP2 team changed hands in 2009 (having previously run as Coloni prior to 2006), after discussion with another user. However, I'm now not sure this was the best approach. I think we should follow the system used on Italian Wikipedia where it:Coloni is about Coloni in both F1 and other series, while FMS has its own page. So, basically, I agree with you. I will split Fisichella Motor Sport back into its own article when the two are merged. But would it be possible for the merged Coloni article be located at Coloni rather than Enzo Coloni Racing Car Systems, if that's what you were going to suggest? - mspete93 15:58, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, I see. Did FMS have any kind of independent existence, or was it only ever an alternative name for the Coloni team? 4u1e (talk) 17:18, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
- They did exist shortly before they joined forces with Coloni in GP2, winning the Italian F3000 title in 2005. They also ran teams in FBMW and Superleague (possibly with Coloni, I'm not sure). The joint GP2 team was run under the "FMS International" [1] name. FMS had its own separate legal identity of 'Fisichella Motor Sport S.p.a.' - mspete93 18:22, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
- Well, that article suggests that the F3000 effort was run by Durango (racing team) on behalf of FMS, so I'm not sure FMS ever existed as a real team. Looks like it was a labelling exercise only. If that's correct, then I'd suggest that the FMS brand be covered in Giancarlo Fisichella's own article, and that the Durango and Coloni articles should make mention of the the tie-ups. Doesn't sound to me like there should be a standalone FMS team article at all, but I'll leave that up to you!
- Coloni would be a better page title, but it's currently a disambiguation page and I'm not sure the racing team/constructor is clearly the most common usage. Coloni Motorsport would be one historically correct name that also accurately describes the organisation's actitivities. 4u1e (talk) 20:19, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
- Well I'm not particularly keen on a separate page for FMS either - I think your idea of covering it in Fisi's article is a good one. In terms of the location of the merged article, Coloni Motorsport works okay for me because as you say it covers the activities. I'm not keen on Enzo Coloni Racing Car Systems because it is simply a historical name from its F1 days, and the team would have been commomly known in F1 as simply 'Coloni' (I'm guessing). Coloni (racing team) would also be an option but I suppose we should avoid using brackets to disambiguate where possible. - mspete93 21:33, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
- Yes the team was commonly referred to as Coloni at the time. I think avoiding the brackets is a good idea. Do you want to do the merge, or shall I? 4u1e (talk) 20:43, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
- You can do it, and I'll try and clean up the GP2 section at some point. - mspete93 21:56, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
