Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on November 28, 2012.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that will.i.am and Britney Spears's 2012 single "Scream & Shout" contains a sample of the opening line of Spears' 2007 single "Gimme More": "It's Britney, bitch"?

Song title

[edit]

The title of the article, as well as the wording in the entire article is wrong. The song is officially titled "Scream & Shout"[1]. Vancho (talk) 16:31, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Which cover to use?

[edit]

Like Womanizer (song), there are two covers for this song. One digital, and assuming the other is for physical releases. For "Womanizer", the physical cover was used. Should the same happen here? Britney's site, for example, uses a cover with an image of the two on it. Statυs (talk) 16:14, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Are we sure that the cover with the image of the two is actually a cover art for the single? As far as I remember, they only tweeted it to promote the video... I could be wrong. - Saulo Talk to Me 16:37, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that doesn't make much sense to me. Why would there be another cover to promote the video? What I think happened is, they didn't have the cover ready to have an image on it yet, so they used one without it digitally. This is what happened with "Womanizer". I'd say wait to see what is used on a physical release (if there is one). Statυs (talk) 16:46, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I see your point. I actually agree, so let's wait. - Saulo Talk to Me 16:47, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's going to be used on the physical release: http://www.amazon.de/Scream-2-Track-Will-I-am-Britney-Spears/dp/B00AMUOP22/ - Saulo Talk to Me 23:29, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

& or featuring

[edit]

The single cover clearly says will.i.am & Britney Spears not featuring Britney Spears as we have it. Shouldn't the credits be corrected? werldwayd (talk) 07:28, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure, because iTunes and other critics said this is a feature. Britney herself said that the single would feature her. - Saulo Talk to Me 15:31, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
With Collide (Leona Lewis and Avicii song) and The Boys (Nicki Minaj and Cassie song) song we list the feature as it does on the cover work. — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 17:29, 24 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The cover does indeed show "and", but that's the only place it appears to be shown as. To compare to the examples Unique gave above, on iTunes, Amazon, etc "Collide" is credited as "Leona Lewis / Aviccii" and "The Boys" as "Nicki Minaj and Cassie".  — Statυs (talk, contribs) 01:50, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, I think in this case its just that in the font chosen, they couldn't fit the world "Featuring". — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 14:12, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's just an assumption. - eo (talk) 13:47, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Billboard is crediting the song as will.i.am and Britney Spears, and as such the title should be changed to. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sashak90 (talkcontribs) 15:59, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Britney herself said this a feature, not a duet or whatsover. iTunes also lists it as a feature and so do many reviewers. Amazon doesn't even list Britney, just will.i.am. - Saulo Talk to Me 02:48, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Regardless of Britney's "feature" comment, that does not mean it is not credited as a duet. Otherwise, the single's cover art would say "featuring" and it would be charting in Billboard as "featuring" (Billboard does not make its own artist credits; they list it as directed by the record label). Just because it is on will.i.am's album does not mean it isn't a duet. - eo (talk) 13:43, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Britney and Will.i.am are on two different labels. This single is being paid for and marketed by Interscope (will's label) — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 14:24, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
In the UK its charting as Feat. Britney (see here), Will.i.am's official vevo (feat. Britney Spears), on Will's official website (feat. Spears), At Interscope Records here, during its world premiere on KIIS FM (here). — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 14:36, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Whichever record label is promoting it really doesn't matter — there are many cases in which two artists from different labels collaborated and still had the song shown as a duet or co-lead. The difference between sites like Amazon or iTunes is that they can credit things as they want, or as their databases show. Billboard does so based on record labels and artist management. It should be taken into account... the most obvious thing is the single's cover art. - eo (talk) 14:40, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's also worth noticing that for the first three weeks of the song's chart life, Billboard also used the term "featuring" before changing it. This happens quite often when credits are revised according to the wishes of record labels. Widr (talk) 15:00, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The label promoting the single makes a massive difference. The labels are the ones who pay for the single and collaboration in the majority of cases. The label promoted the song as featuring Brintey Spears. Billboard often list as per the single cover. Actually iTunes often list per the label hence Diddy Dirty Money was changed to Diddy-Dirty Money when P Diddy launched his group as per the request of Interscope. The fact that two artists from two different labels are involved and that Will.I.am's label is the one pushing the song leads to a logical conclusion that Will is the primary artist. — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 15:48, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"It als passed 1 million in digital sales..."

Orphaned references in Scream & Shout

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Scream & Shout's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "hung":

  • From B in the Mix: The Remixes: "Britney Spears - B in the Mix: The Remixes (album)". Ultratop. Hung Medien. Retrieved 2010-05-01.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 17:22, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Official cover

[edit]

This is the official Scream & Shout cover used on iTunes. Can we change the current cover to this one?

Removed cover as non-free images are not allowed on iTunes. Per WP:NFCC non-free images are only allowed to be used where they enhance user understanding. In this case there are two single covers, one for the iTunes/Digital single and one for the CD single. The one of the CD single features images of Spears and Will.I.am and would be harder to explain in words thus this cover is the one that should appear in the infobox. — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 16:33, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Scream & Shout Remix

[edit]

The remix to this song needs a single page for the remix song, thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eleventhblock (talkcontribs) 00:54, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, the Hit-Boy remix needs its own page or a more detailed article with information on the music video and a photo of the single cover and one of the stills of Britney from the video. Can someone please update the article with this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by User5482 (talkcontribs) 07:49, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not done The Remix isn't significantly more notable than the original version so disagree. — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 22:34, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Can the remix single cover and a photo from the remix video at least be added to the remixes section? — Preceding unsigned comment added by User5482 (talkcontribs) 08:00, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The remix is different enough to chart separately than the original on Billboard, so it might warrant its own page, or at least an expansion of its current section. Akcvtt (talk) 08:09, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The referenced website doesn't appear to have any content: "while an AOL On reviewer deemed it as a "dance floor anthem" and stated that "perhaps the best part of the song is the best one-liner from Britney's 'Gimme More' – "It's Britney B"."[1]" Baffle gab1978 (talk) 05:22, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Music Video --> Development

What the heck does this mean, and why is it relevant here? Except for the bit about fashion I've removed the other nonsense:

"When asked about the video's concept and style, will.i.am revealed that it will include "uber fresh fashion. The young kids brought their game. I don't want to say it's 'swag.' Because swag is… it's dope, but this is beyond swag. This is swag in reverse, which is gaws," and added that he had the intention to release both video and song together.[2]"
Removed irrelevant gushing about Spears from video's director, which tells us nothing about the development of the video:

"I was very, very excited. Needless to say, I've always wanted to work with her and so completely looking forward to it, super stoked that I finally get to work with her," he told MTV News. "And she was absolutely super professional. [She] wasted no time, showed up before anybody else. [She] was spot on time, not a minute late. Her hair and makeup team, her glam team was amazing to work with. She did her thing. It was awesome to watch. She just lights up. The music kicks in, and it was just awesome. I can't say enough good things about her and her team. They were just awesome."[3]

  • Remixes

Removed the following waffle:

On December 3, 2012, she tweeted will.i.am saying that a "Lil birdy told me you have some amazing DJ's remixing it as we speak",[4] while he replied, "I got some super fresh, mega dope, hot hot remixes from some super dj's and producers coming soon..."[5]

Comments

  • "some of whom" should be "some of which"

  • "A Rap-Up reviewer wrote about the use of Auto-Tune on will.i.am's vocals" what did they state, can you elaborate on that?
  • The autor states, "The electro-dance record, which will appear on will’s upcoming album #willpower, features a robotic hook from Britney and Auto-Tuned vocals from will". I re-wrote the sentence but I'm not sure if it's clear still. Take a look. - Saulo Talk to Me 03:07, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Generally, About.com is not considered to be a reliable source and thus I would remove the review from their members.
The review is from Bill Lamb, a music journalist since 1999, who covers the Top 40 / Pop section of About.com, and has interviewed many celebrities for the site. Generally the site may not be considered reliable, but isn't this case reliable enough to be kept? - Saulo Talk to Me 03:07, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Please do not use curly quotation marks, such as ’ or ”, and stick with the regular per MOS:QUOTE
  • "On January 1, 2013, will.i.am said that he would release a club remix of "Scream & Shout" featuring American rapper Waka Flocka Flame and producer Hit-Boy the same day" I do not understanding the meaning of "the same day", can it perhaps be removed?

Remix video

[edit]

The Scream & Shout Hit Boy remix is extremely notable in Britney's discography and videography for having a separate music video and being a collaboration. It currently has 22 million views on Youtube which also makes it notable. A separate page about the Scream & Shout remix with a picture from the remix video and the single cover should be added. — Preceding unsigned comment added by User5482 (talkcontribs) 07:17, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. Same could be said about S&M Remix featuring Britney or Till the World Ends remix featuring Nicki Minaj and Kesha. It's just a remix of the song, it has its own section and that's enough. - Saulo Talk to Me 01:28, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Disagree. The difference is the Scream and Shout remix has it's own music video while none of those remixes do and it's a completely different version of the song. It's approaching 25 million Vevo views yet there's not even a picture of the remix video there. It certainly deserves it's own page, especially more than some of her random album tracks that have them. User5482 (talk) 18:49, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong key?

[edit]

What key is the song actually in? If the song is actually not in D minor, change the key. On musicnotes.com, it says that the song is in D minor. Ssjhowarthisawesome (talk) 21:37, 7 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If the song is predominantly major or dorian, change the key. 2601:584:202:200:D181:3FD:DE80:4EC (talk) 22:05, 31 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The song is in G minor, so the song is predominantly dorian. 73.1.57.180 (talk) 16:41, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't the article credit Tulisa as a singer, too?

[edit]

She is still heard on the track and a successful lawsuit has established as much. AWildAppeared (talk) 09:34, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

AWildAppeared she is credited as a songwriter both in the infobox and lead. She isn't credited for vocals because her vocals aren't on the song. There may be some background vocals present but the lawsuit established she helped write the song and was awarded royalties through that avenue. ≫ Lil-Unique1 -{ Talk }- 10:47, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
