Groundbreaking verses dedicated date and consecrated date
[edit]The church infobox cites the groundbreaking data as being year 782. However, as the basilica incorporates two earlier structures (the Stadio Annonae and an earlier Christian Welfare Center), I suggest the groundbreaking could be earlier (around c600) and the dedicated date and concentrated dates being 782.

- That's a really good point. On the one hand, the church itself wasn't begun until c.780, and the article is about the church. On the other, the church was built into and expanded the diaconia, which seems to have been built c. 550, according to information I found, and was surely used for worship. I like your solution. Adding content and citations
[edit]Hello, fellow Wikipedians, I'm working on expanding the entry for the Roman basilica of Santa Maria in Cosmedin because a number of sources name it as the most important medieval church in Rome. I'm very grateful to the original authors for sorting out the chronology and discovering important information. After finding more information in archaeological reports and other sources, I've added material on the identities of the buildings that were there before the church, the role and form of the first Christian building on the site, older elements incorporated during rebuilding, and what was accomplished in the 8th-century expansion as opposed to the 12th-century rebuilding. I'm also adding more information on the interior, decoration, and contents of the church and have been able to find sources for most of the unattributed material. I would welcome any corrections, suggestions, and further information. Thank you very much. Nonnabede Nonnabede (talk) 20:36, 5 October 2023 (UTC)
