Talk:Sant'Ivo dei Bretoni
Appearance
contradiction: " ...national church.. in Rome dedicated to 'France' (Brittany)" - wrong: dedicated solely to the Breton Nation.
[edit]The church is dedicated to Brittany and the Breton Nation, not France and the French 'nation'. We must distinguish between 'nation' and 'state'.
It stands on the site of a previous church and hospice for Bretons given in the XVth century by Pope Nicholas V to the Duchy of Brittany, then independent of France. The modern church is still dedicated to the Breton nation: Brittany may be part of the French 'state', but its people remain a nation (not a view shared by French Republicans, I admit.)
See the plaque there bearing the inscription: DOMUS HOSITALIS ECLESIE S. YVONIS NAT.BRITANIE - hospice of the church of Saint Yves of the BRETON NATION.
