Primary sources

[edit]

@Theroadislong: Hi. Thanks for your contribution to this article. I just have a question around the deletion of some sections based on the fact that they rely on primary sources - Particularly the 'marriage' section. I have read the No Original Research page here and my interpretation, and my previous understanding is that primary sources are allowed, as long as the article doesn't rely too heavily on them and as long as they haven't been interpreted by the editor (Original Research). So a marriage certificate, for example is an official government document, not something close to the sources, and the editor has simply presented the facts it contains to enrich the biography. The guidelines state - "All analyses and interpretive or synthetic claims about primary sources must be referenced to a secondary or tertiary source, and must not be an original analysis of the primary-source material by Wikipedia editors." - Which seems fairly clear, so would it be acceptable to restore parts of the deleted text which simply state facts recorded in primary sources? Many thanks Jason.nlw (talk) 06:43, 1 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You have left out the original research this time, thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 20:26, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
