GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose, spelling, and grammar): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
  • The references need significant editing. Wikipedia policy on citations and references WP:CITE do not require linking to the authors of references in the Reference section.
  • In the Biography section, there is overlinking of terms. See WP:OVERLINK and WP:OVERCITE for guidance
  • Biography, remove links to merchant, torah scholar, religious education, German literature, Russian, French, Latin, Polish, and English, weekly, modern languages, German, printing press, bathhouse, alderman, estate and Catholicism.
  • Overlinking also occurs in the Publications section.
  • Publications: remove links to German (Imre),Biblical (Shenot), destruction, Temple, Mattityahu Strashun (nidhe), Jeconiah, Alexander the Great, Simon Maccabeus (Divre), Hasdai ibn Shaprut (Sofre), Geonim, Lehmann (Bustanai), Moses Mendelssohn (Ma'amar), Philippson (Ya'akov), Hungarian (Ha-tefilliin), Saadia Gaon (Le-toledot), Crimea, Turkey (Ḥakhme), Russian Jews (Safah), Hebrew, Aramaic, Bible, Mishnah, Midrashim, (Ha-otsar),
  • Unpublished work: remove link to anti-Jewish, commentary, Maimonides, glosses,
  1. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
  • Much of the source documentation is in Hebrew. Examination of English sources reflect accuracy as far as the text goes.
  1. a (reference section): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR): d (copyvio and plagiarism):
  2. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
  • While the facts of Fuenn's life and employments are given, the significance and pivotal role of his appointments and the influence he extended are not given.
  • There is no coverage of the significance of Fuenn's writings, the reception of his works, the criticism of his works.
  • There is no coverage of the history of the Haskalah in Russia. What was the background between the Orthodox and the Haskalah, and what was Fuenn's place in this?
  • There is no coverage of Fuenn's place in the story of Vilna Maskallim
  • What is the significance of the periodical ha-Carmel? What was Fuenn attempting to achieve?
  • Why is there no coverage of Darkhei Hashem being unpublished during Fuenn's lifetime? Were people suspicious of Fuenn and his adherence to Halakah?
  • During the 1860s his status was enhanced even further: he received a government license to establish a Hebrew printing press; should be referenced. He is son of a merchant, it is not explained how he became a printer.
  1. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  • There is a neutral tone preserved as Fuenn rose to be one of the three leaders of Maskilim in Vilna and Lithuania.
  1. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  • Page created 24 November 2006
  • Page has 41 edits by 28 editors
  • Majority of edits in 2021;
  • 90 day page views = 272 with a daily average of 3 views
  • Page is considered stable
  1. It is illustrated by images and other media, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free content have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  • File:Samuel Joseph Fünn.jpeg = National Library of Israel collection; public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 70 years or fewer.
  • File:Fuenn Ha-Otzar.jpg = claimed public domain.
  1. Overall:
  • While this article gives the basic facts about Fuenn and his works during his life, there is an absence of the place in society and the roles he played for and among European Jewry and Russian Jewry in particular, as well as leadership of the nascent Zionist movements.
  • There is no evaluation of his works and their significance and outcomes - published books, periodicals, newspapers, like this.
  • What was the reception or criticism of his works?
  • There is no evaluation of sitz-im-leben regarding the situation of Russian (Vilna/Lithuanian) Jewry at the time of Fuenn under the tsarina, status of Jews in society, poverty, employment, like this. :::* What role did Fuenn play in the emancipation of Jews in Vilna - and Russian life and society - if any? These points don't need a full historical essay; rather, more consideration should be given to Fuenn and his somewhat extraordinary output in publications and its impact, its outreach.
  • This article is missing important information and does not give the reader a sense of the significance nor the place Fuenn played in Vilna and Russian Jewish History of his time, the place in the story of Vilna Maskallim.
  • The article requires some work on over-linking.
  • There should be a new section on Reception of his writings.
  • The references need significant editing. Wikipedia policy on citations and references WP:CITE do not require linking to the authors of references in the Reference section.
  • At the present moment, this article does not meet Good Article status. --Whiteguru (talk) 06:15, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
