Nice rewrite

Sooo much nicer now that it's been rewritten. Thanks to those involved. Chris Cunningham 14:46, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

Grange Hill

Wasn't she Justine in Grange Hill? Timrollpickering 17:10, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Apparently that was Rachel Victoria Roberts : see [1] Tim! 17:13, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Birth name

I looked her up in the GRO National Birth Index for 1972 and she's actually in it twice. Once under the name 'Samantha Zoe Janus', and again under 'Samantha Zoe O'Hanlon'. I don't know what the story is there or which is the more legitimate name, but I've edited the former into her infobox for now. Analog Kid 22:10, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

I saw that, I'm assuming her Mother's surname may have been O'Hanlon? Was she born out of wedlock? Maybe they just wasn't sure which name to put down?! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.202.214.147 (talk) 02:10, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Siblings

I think someone is having a laugh listing her brother as Hugh, Hugh Janus is a classic piece of school yard humour. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.39.65.226 (talk) 17:39, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Don't forget, her name is pronouned Jannus.--Tuzapicabit (talk) 02:28, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Husband

There are apparently two actors named Mark Womack. The one hyperlinked on Samantha Janus' wikipage was born in 1992 and is from Lubbock, Texas. The other Mark Womack is an actor from either the UK or Ireland and played Detective Sergeant Callahan in ITV's Liverpool One. I imagine he was born in the early 1970's. I'm guessing that Samantha is not married to the 16 year old Mark Womack. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bobnweavelefthook (talkcontribs) 21:16, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Personal life

This para appears to contradict itself. It says she is now engaged and then it goes on to talk about her husband. I do not know which is correct.Peter Harriman (talk) 09:49, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Please note she was married to junfan mantovani, not mauro mantovani. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.214.99.124 (talk) 18:37, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

Really? This source says Mauro Mantovani --5 albert square (talk) 19:21, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

So it does, and this source says Junfan Mantovani

What do we do in this situation? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.214.99.124 (talk) 11:25, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Well now I've had the time to Google it a bit more, I'm getting more reliable sources saying Junfan than Mauro. I know that Hello magazine would normally be counted as a reliable source but in this case I think for some unknown reason they've taken the information either from Wikipedia or from a source that gets it from Wikipedia! --5 albert square (talk) 12:16, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Janus or Janes

I know Janus is her public name, but I'm wondering if the family name is actually Janes, since this is the birth name of Angie Best, who is her aunt? Sky83 (talk) 12:59, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

You may well be right. Here father's surname was Janes, according to this news story, and a poster commenting on that story has asserted that she initially changed her name from Janes to Janus.--92.40.121.139 (talk) 04:53, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Rfc: Womack

The change of article name seems fair, even the BBC are using it [2]. A similar change was allowed for Jessica Hynes. magnius (talk) 22:57, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Per WP:COMMONNAME, the article should be located at Samantha Janus not Samantha Womack: "title an article using the most common name of the person or thing that is the subject of the article". AnemoneProjectors (talk) 23:13, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
But rather like Jessica Hynes, she is using her new name professionally...surely you cannot have one rule for one, and one rule for another. magnius (talk) 23:18, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, I've never heard of Jessica Hynes, but if she's best known as Jessica Stevenson then the article shouldn't have been moved. However she married in 2002 so she might be better known as Jessica Hynes now. I can't comment as I haven't a clue who she is. It's not different rules though, it's just that sometimes people don't know the rules. But Sam Janus is definitely better known as Sam Janus. It doesn't really matter about professional names, it's the name a person is best known by. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 23:24, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
I've added a Rfc tag so we may get extra opinions. I think the article name should be changed, but I am happy to go along with consensus. magnius (talk) 23:28, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
I'll also go along with consensus, whether I agree with it or not. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 23:30, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

I can't find any clarification on this in the guidelines, but I think saying that Janus should be used based on WP:COMMONNAME may not be correct. If she has changed her name for both professional and personal purposes, then Janus is no longer her "most commonly used name", it is surely not her name at all. --FormerIP (talk) 22:49, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

I think "the most common name of the person" means the name she's best known by to the public, rather than the name she most commonly uses herself. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 22:56, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
But as she is now using her new name professionally, in a high profile UK soap opera, her new name is now her common name. If she had married and kept her original surname as a stage name, then no change would be needed, but she is clearly intending to use Womack for future projects, hence it has become her common name. If you are in the UK, you can clearly see her listed as Womack on the end credits of the episode dated 17th July [3]. magnius (talk) 23:09, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
I've obviously misunderstood WP:COMMONNAME. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 23:23, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Hard to tell if that's sarcasm or not.
Like I say, there doesn't appear to be a specific guideline on this, which I find surprising. But it does seem to me there is a question to be asked "what is her most commonly used name?". The first part of this is identifying what the options are. Since, it appears, any use of Janus is now incorrect (because it is no longer her name), then polling or counting Google results is not helpful. The option "Janus" is now out of play, and the Google results that may back it can be dismissed as out-of-date.
That's my logic anyway, although I accept there may be other ways of approaching the question. --FormerIP (talk) 23:40, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
I wasn't being sarcastic, so sorry if it might have come across that way. Here are a few examples of people whose professional name has changed: Cat Stevens (now Yusuf Islam) and Sananda Maitreya (formerly Terence Trent D'Arby). Both are better known by their former stage names, but one page uses the former name and one uses the current name. So not much help really. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 00:11, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
That seems to me the wrong way round, if anything! Yusuf Islam is currently notable as someone who often appears in the media. Sananda Maitreya, on the other hand appears to be, pretty much, the current name of a non-notable amateur musician (apologies to his fans, but that is how it looks). Perhaps looking at other articles for comparitors is not the way forward. --FormerIP (talk) 00:30, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
And not forgetting the aforemention Jessica Stevenson, now known (and changed on wiki) to Jessica Hynes. With lack of direct guidance, I'd suggest that the name should be changed as the new surname seems to be sticking BBC [4] . magnius (talk) 12:07, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Move supported, but the article needs some copyediting to account for the change of name. magnius (talk) 21:53, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Note that the page has been moved by User:The Twelfth Doctor. -- Alexandr Dmitri (Александр Дмитрий) (talk) 23:11, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

I've undone this. The Twelfth Doctor (talk · contribs) and Magnius (talk · contribs) should re-examine WP:NAME. Jessica Stevenson has been fixed as well: cheers for pointing that out. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 23:33, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Samantha WomackSamantha Janus — Relisted. Arbitrarily0 (talk) 17:34, 25 November 2009 (UTC) Someone told me that she is better known under her maiden name. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 22:28, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Significantly so, to the point where over 80% of the current article sources refer to her as Janus. This is the name she's been known under for the majority of her professional career; several references still use Janus after her marriage, presumably because she's so well known under that name that it's clearer to readers to refer to her as such. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 00:44, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
See my comments as User talk:Thumperward#Re: Womack/Hynes. In the past she was better known as Janus, becuase it was her name. Now Womack is the only surname used both professionally and personally. U-Mos (talk) 00:55, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Oppose move: She is now known personally and professionally by her married name. A redirect is place from her maiden name, so no search issues arise. – ukexpat (talk) 15:39, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
  • Oppose move. The likely reason most of the sources refer to her as Janus is because she wasn't married when the sources appeared. Now she's known personally and professionally as Womack. I thought this was resolved before but someone decided to move it back without discussing it, and then someone else moved it again. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 15:42, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
One source can be wrong, particularly if it's the sun. That's one source as opposed to the many that refer to her as Womack since her marriage, in addition to every episode of EastEnders she's been in since the summer. U-Mos (talk) 17:20, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Evidence? So far only one post-name change source has been provided that calls her "Janus". U-Mos (talk) 17:36, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
The period from which a source is taken is irrelevant. It is sufficient that more sources overall use one name or the other: to favour current sources is recentism. The ever-present example is Cat Stevens, who has gone by Yusuf Islam for 25 years and is still better-known by his former name. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 17:44, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
Yes, still. Still better known by his former name. Unlike the actress in question, who was previously better known as Janus. Of course the period is relevant, as she has only used the name Womack for around three months and so sources prior to this had no choice what to call her. If this page were to be at Janus, there would need to be enough post-name change sources to evidence that she is still more commonly known as Janus. We have one such source. That's what it boils down to. U-Mos (talk) 21:02, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
