The ginseng article links to this page as "the poor man's ginseng"; is there any credence to this and should it be included in the article? --137.122.202.30 (talk) 21:28, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not any more, that now links to Codonopsis, which also comes up on a web search. Nadiatalent (talk) 11:33, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Synonymous to Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge?

[edit]

I've struck upon a mentioning of a compound called Salvianolic acid. At this moment (as I'm writing) there is no Wikipedia article about this acid. On one webpage there is information that this acid is isolated from Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge. If this is the same plant, maybe the Salvianolic acid should be mentioned in this article (the compound seems to act as antioxidant). Best regards, CopperKettle 08:43, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've added some citations about this, there is apparently a lot of research on this chemical. Nadiatalent (talk) 11:33, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Citations and factual accuracy

[edit]

This article contains no citations to support the extraordinary claims of medical efficacy of this herb. In the absence of support from articles published in mainstream, peer reviewed, scientific and medical journals, these claims are highly dubious. If someone can provide reliable sources supporting them, please do so. I will allow a short time for such citations to be added and will make some effort to find them myself. However, given the extraordinary nature of the claims unless solid support can be found in a fairly short timespan I will remove all unsourced and dubious medical claims from this article. I've removed some of the more obviously unencyclopaedic sentences 'needs further study', et.c. However it probably still needs a further prune. Imc (talk) 19:15, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For the citation that dan shen could possibly help in HIV, the article is this: Abd-Elazem IS, Chen HS, Bates RB, Huang RC (2002). Isolation of two highly potent and non-toxic inhibitors of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) integrase from Salvia miltiorrhiza. Antiviral Res; 55(1):91-106.

I have no idea how to put it into the article at all and make links and stuff so I'll show you the info and let you guys put it in. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.31.12.198 (talk) 20:25, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The citation has been added. Nadiatalent (talk) 11:33, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone please explain what is wrong with the citations that have been tagged with refimprove. Cochrane reviews are about the best there is. Nadiatalent (talk) 13:06, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I tagged the entire section with refimprove, because there are seven 'citation needed' tags in that "Uses" section - if that's what you're asking about. First Light (talk) 14:16, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I was confused by the heading styles, and thought the tag was for just the first paragraph (which seems fine to me). Nadiatalent (talk) 21:38, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
