Notability

[edit]

Please add some text indicating why this group meets one or more of the following notability requirements:

A quote from the music notability guideline:

Important note: Failing to satisfy the notability guidelines is not a criterion for speedy deletion. However, an article on an artist or band that does not indicate that the subject of the article is important or significant can be speedily deleted under criterion A7. A mere claim of significance, even if contested, may avoid speedy deletion under A7, requiring a full proposed deletion or Article for Deletion process to determine if the article should be included in Wikipedia.

If they've started a national tour and received press coverage from multiple independent newspapers, this would be a claim of notability. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 22:42, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Interview at [1] Baffle gab1978 (talk) 01:31, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That interview refers to a then-future event. Do you have coverage of the tour as it happened or after the fact? davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 02:24, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notability redux

[edit]

This article does not firmly establish that this band is notable according to either WP:Notability or WP:Notability (music). Should it ever be nominated for deletion at WP:AFD it would have a very hard time surviving. Consequently, until this article is improved, all works by this band should rely on their own notability to prevent going down at AFD as well.

A future national tour may qualify as notable if the dates are firm and it's been mentioned in reliable, third-party sources in a non-trivial way. "Lists of tours" would be trivial, a review of an album being promoted on the tour that mentions the tour would be non-trivial and would also likely qualify the album as notable, particularly if there were several such reviews. A tour that has already started or completed would likely qualify as making the band notable. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 18:09, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Albums available e.g. on amazon.com [2], listed on allmusic.com [3], tour will start after release of their third album (according to the article). Could be even enough for german wikipedia. --Ilion2 (talk) 19:17, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
When does the tour start? Next week? That's probably easy to qualify as notable. Next month? Maybe, if it's a major tour and tickets are already being sold. In 2010? Probably doesn't qualify as notable. In any case, beef up the article with the tour date, with reliable sources. As you may have guessed, "on amazon" and "on allmusic" doesn't impress me much when it comes to notability. They may save the song from {{db-a9}} but that's about it. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 19:49, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The tour is called "SAKANAQUARIUM2009" and will start on Februar 14, 2009. The reference in the article for this is [4]. Doesn't look like you are willing to contribute here. First you want to delete the albums, now the band article. Then you asked here questions which are answered in the article. --Ilion2 (talk) 20:30, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The band is well known. It's not a local band or anything, it's simply not mainstream music. They are however, internationally know throughout the world. They have produced music videos. I've noticed that many indie bands from Japan are not shown here on wikipedia. They do have notability! I'll just have to try my hardest to dig it up. There is info out there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by --Torothetiger (talkcontribs) 03:21, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'd also like to say that since I'm not able to upload I'd like to ask if someone could upload a band picture for Sakanaction. I found a website with some good information on their newest album as well as their newest group picture. It's here: http://natalie.mu/gallery/show/news_id/12015/image_id/5503. Please upload that picture. Thank you! By the way, I am not Japanese. I'm an African-American, just in case you were wondering. --Torothetiger —Preceding unsigned comment added by --Torothetiger (talkcontribs) 03:21, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You should be able to upload files now. With a few exceptions, only very new accounts are prevented from uploading images. Before uploading any image, read WP:IMAGES and WP:COPYRIGHT very carefully. In particular, don't upload an image of this band if it's more than about 300 pixels wide unless it qualifies as a "free license" image. Images "found on web sites" almost never qualify. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 09:50, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Photo

[edit]
Green tickY Resolved.

Photos of this type are rarely released under the GFPL. I re-tagged it as copyright and provided a fair use rationale.

However the fair-use rationale requires a source. If you know where this image came from please edit the image file and add this information.

Also the fair-use rationale is lame and the image may very well be deleted under images for deletion soon.

Finally, the image is too big to qualify as fair use for this article. Please upload a smaller version, one no bigger than about 300 pixels wide. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 07:08, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Resolved, photo shrunk and properly tagged as fair use and source provided. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 19:01, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Today's changes

[edit]

I made some changes today, mostly removing or greatly reducing material that looked promotional, cleaning up the formatting for references and links, and adding {{jp icon}} to links that are primarily in Japanese. Please see WP:NOT and WP:SPAM. I also completely removed the section about the tour, as there wasn't much left after removing the tour dates, which aren't encyclopedic and looked too promotional. I merged what was left into the section about the upcoming album. I also took out the fluff language surrounding the discovery and merged it into the "Rise to Popularity" section. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 18:33, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The two photos not in the infobox are uploaded as free images, but those tags are suspect. File:Summer_Sonic.jpg is uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons but is in the process of being deleted for lack of a suitable free-license or public-domain tag. Non-free images are not allowed on the Wikipedia Commons at all, they must be stored on Wikipedia. File:Sakanaction.jpg is on the English Wikipedia and tagged as GFDL, but it looks very professional and there's no evidence of a GFDL copyright release, so I'm inclined to think it's mis-tagged. I've contacted the uploader, hopefully he can straighten things out. If they turn out to be non-free images, it will be very difficult to provide a fair use rationale, and the images will have to be removed. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 18:56, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Bahha" Translation Edit

[edit]

Made a slight edit to the translation of the title "Bahha no Senritsu wo Yoru ni Kiita Sei Desu." The new translation flows a little better in English, and also reflects the use of past tense in the Japanese. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sutematsu (talkcontribs) 23:14, 12 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
