Healthy Measures Employee Insurance Plan

There aren't that many good references on the internet - leave it for now? Coriolis (talk) 09:48, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Strike

[edit]

I believe there was a major strike against the Safeway Corp. in 1978. I'll see if I can dig anything up on it.--Rockero 02:42, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Safeway, like most major US grocery chains, has faced a large number of strikes over its history - which spans the formation of the labor movement in the US. It might not make sense to list them all. Coriolis (talk) 09:46, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Slogans

Should there be a mention of the year when Safeway began offering online groceries shopping and van deliveries? Club cards too, perhaps?

Safeway also owns Blackhawk Corp. One of the largest distributors of 3rd party gift cards in North America.

Safeway does not have a data center in Pleasanton.

Trivia Section

[edit]

The trivia section in this article bothers me for a few reasons One it is stated that trivia should be avoided in the guidelinesWP:TRIV Two this is a practice done is more than just Washington DC and for more than just safeway so the uniqueness implied is not correct. Three if we want an article section like this it should be retitles to reflect it as something other than trivia and to include examples from more than just Washington DC based on the same fact we aren't supposed to write or title articles from just one country's perspective. Suitability of the "Environmental issues" section?

[edit]

Not that I would want to dismiss the problem of plastic bags, but I wonder how the contents of that section relates to Safeway in particular. It sounded a newspaper report on a Annapolis hearing that relate to no retailer in particular and Safeway should not be singled out-- it is been clear that Safeway is neither instrumental or the worst offender in plastic bag pollution; it is, after all, not any bigger than Kroger or SuperValu or Wal-Mart. --Samuel di Curtisi di Salvadori 08:55, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was about to say the same thing. Coriolis (talk) 07:41, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the whole section. Why? (1) Unclear why this is a Safeway specific issue - wouldn't it make more sense under "plastic bags". (2) Some clear bias in the text. (talk) 03 November 2008

Franchise

[edit]

Thank you for your time and energy! Does anyone know of the best way to go about opening a Safeway Franchise? I am new to this and so any advice is welcome. :D I live in Burbank Washington. The county is Walla Walla County. The town is unincorporated and so I think I have to go through the county for everything. HERE (16 acre green farm field, between HW 124 and I 12) is where my intent is. I have already began contacting Walla Walla County and Safeway. I also contacted the local college in hopes that I can find some studies and such that already have been done. What I hope for is that someone can give me advice on the best way to go from here. I seriously have never done this before and anyone who has is not known to me either. Thank you again for your time and energy! :D

Safeway is not a franchise. --70.108.232.148 (talk) 17:36, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Products?

[edit]

Under the "Products" section on the right side of the article, Western Union is listed as being one of Safeway's products offered. Can one really consider a wire transfer to be a product? It's more like a service. Dmarquard (talk) 16:36, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Texas acquisitions

[edit]

Safeway bought a very prestigious chain of stores in Houston in the 70's. It was a complete failure. The same stores were later sold to Apple Tree. I can't remember the name of the chain, but they were Houston's equivalent of Dallas' Tom Thumb.

The recent acquisition of Randall's seems to be following a similar path. The first thing they did was close some very popular Randall's stores. DaveCrane (talk) 20:25, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hawaii

There are seventeen Safeway stores in the State of Hawaii. This can be verified by accessing the Safeway homepage and searching for stores in Hawaii72.235.31.198 (talk) 09:13, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

MOVE article to Safeway

[edit]

As I'm unable to do it myself, and rather cautious too, I'm appealing to administrators.

The current Safeway article would be better used as a disambiguation page (I notice the Safeway (disambiguation) article redirects there). All other Safeway supermarket chains have been defunct for at least two years (The Australian Safeway brand disappeared in '09, the others disappeared around 2004). When people search Safeway I believe they're looking for this article.

If someone wants to create a vote for this then please do, I see no good reason for not having this article under the 'Safeway' heading. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Quackth (talkcontribs) 20:02, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Animal Welfare Concerns

[edit]

I had trimmed down a lot of the sensationalism of this section to make it fit a WP:NPOV; but the fundamental story here is that even before the results of the investigation was published, Safeway had changed their sourcing policies. While it may be a notable program to the article for Mercy for Animals, I'm not seeing a strong reason to leave the material in this article. It became a non-issue (for Safeway) before it was even published. Anyone else feel the section should just be removed from this article? --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 17:12, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why there's so few Safeway stores in Idaho.

[edit]

Safeway has two locations in Coeur D'Alene, one in Sandpoint, one in Lewiston, one in Bonners Ferry and one in Moscow, ID. There used to be many more of them, especially in the Boise area. Why that changed was in the 90's the company wanted to build a new store in Boise close to a school. The city council denied the permit because it was too close to the school and there were "safety concerns" about students crossing roads to go to Safeway. Then Albertson's was granted a permit to build on the location that Safeway was denied. In response, Safeway closed all but their most northern stores in Idaho and has not opened another store in the State since. It's a bit ironic now that they're owned by the same conglomerate as Albertson's. I've been searching for information related to this event, I remember it from local news reports, but like so many things pre-WWW it's hard to locate. Lots of material - flows erratically in places as if pieces were just inserted willy nilly -June 2014

[edit]

Sorry, I will not read again and make detailed notes.

I just thought maybe it would be good to hear the impression of someone not associated with this material who just read the entire article.

Generally I like the accumulation of information. However, there are places where it reads as if someone inserted a sentence in the middle of a flow of information or that someone decided to add to the flow of information after someone else entered slightly off topic information.

Disjointed flow of thought.

There is also some strange and illogical reads around the discussion of the years of sales and mergers in the early years relating to the number of locations sold and by whom. Very difficult to get a clear mental image of the entire process because it just does not seem to add up based on how it reads ... from my perspective.

All in all it reads a bit more like a story that was outlined then handed out to several people who each took turns at interjecting thoughts here and there. Or, maybe it was longer and trims of info were made that negatively impacted the original flow of the information.

Would be nice if one of the authors would take the time to read through the entire article from start to finish with an open mind and try to determine if the information passes the logic test. 166.191.141.20 (talk) Just a friendly passer by looking for knowledge — Preceding undated comment added 06:06, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pak 'n Save information

[edit]

I came to this article looking for information on the Pak 'n Save that they're apparently operating in the area. I ended up not getting much information, and needing to add a citation to the little bit I did find. Furthermore, Pak'nSave barely acknowledges the presence of the U.S. based chain. That might be appropriate; I came here out of laziness and I'm inclined to leave out of laziness, so I have no idea of Pak 'n Save nee Brentwood deserves more than a passing reference. Seems like there's a lot more research work to do here for someone (probably not me).  :-) -- RobLa (talk) 23:06, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Albertson's Merger

[edit]

The FTC approved the merger on January 27th 2015 followed by the merger finalizing completely on January 30th 2015. Safeway was delisted from the New York Stock Exchange and is now a privately held company. The new company agreed to sell 168 stores for the FTC approval.

The drop down for Safeway, Inc was changed to Albertsons Companies to reflect the merger, someone just needs to input Albertsons companies other info besides banners into the drop down. Also there should also be a differentiation between national banners (Albertsons & Safeway) and regional banners (others). — Preceding unsigned comment added by The Green Arrow1 (talkcontribs) 11:00, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
