Scope of ruling
[edit]I'm not very familiar with Indian law, but shouldn't this ruling only have effect in the State where it was issued? I've done a little bit of research I can't seem to find any article on a nationwide ban on conversion therapy in India (this article claims that this decision banned conversion therapy throughout India) though I did find the following:
Indian state set to be the first to ban ‘conversion therapy’ of LGBT+ individuals
India: Judge bans conversion therapy in Tamil Nadu

- No, because the Madras High Court directed the National Medical Commission, Indian regulatory body which regulates medical education and medical professionals throughout India, to take action against professionals involved in any form or method of "conversion therapy," including the withdrawal of their license to practice.
- On 2 September 2022, National Medical Commission declared provision of conversion therapy as an act of professional misconduct and empowered the State Medical Councils to take disciplinary action against medical professionals if they provide “conversion therapy.” National Medical Commission empowered all the State Medical Councils, not just Tamil Nadu State Medical Council
- The source for this is relevant interim orders (you can find the specific order from the citation), where the Madras High Court order has included National Medical Commission's declaration of professional misconduct and subsequent enpowernment of State Medical Councils as proof of compliance.
