Genre?

[edit]

Are they really Britpop, because Britpop is a type of alternative rock and they are definitely not alternative. DavidJJJ 07:57, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

d00d s club 7 is SOOOOOO alternative! u r a idiot. If u listened to s club 7 every day like I do, u would know that they have alternative influencez.
Are you for real? If you are being sarcastic, good for you. If you're not, please learn to spell before voicing your opinions.141.211.173.132 04:50, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the above. I just hope you can speak better english than you can write.

Why would something called "Britpop" be a kind of alternative music? That makes no sense. Whenever I hear Britpop, I think British pop music, not alternative rock. Wouldn't it make more sense to call that Britrock or something? Britpop conjurs up different images. Socalledboothy 17:46, 1 November 2006 (UTC) WTF they ARE POP! POP. POP POP POP![reply]

Britpop by definition is bands such as oasis, blur etc, bands of the early 1990's which signalled the revival of the british pop scene. S club, however good, are of no such class to be defined as britpop, and their style of music isn't britpop. The top poster is correct, britpop is alterntive music. look it up if you will and s club are definately just POP!

Be polite... yo...didn't yous all read the "talk page guidlines"? BE POLITE... And who ever wrote "I just hope you can speak better english than you can write" should worry about their own writing before they worry about anybody else's. S club cannot in anyway be considered alternative since they were a "manufactured" POP band. 'nuf said.

No they shouldnt, that was fair comment. Nit picking whinging fool.

NPOV.

[edit]

Here's a few reasons why I added the NPOV template:

"'Never Had a Dream Come True' marked a more mature direction for the group which retained their pop sensibilities whilst broadening their appeal to a more adult audience. However, it was their next single which really proved to their breakthrough in this respect. "Don't Stop Movin'" was a classy dance/pop song..."

"...it included a number of other very-strong tracks..."

"In many ways, S Club were an anachronism by 2003, with the musical landscape having shifted away from such overtly-'manufactured' groups towards a more 'organic' presentation with groups being presented as writing their own songs and playing their own instruments. Nonetheless, their relatively-long career (for this genre) is noteworthy. Unlike many 'pop' groups, they did not rely on cover versions to generate hit singles: "Natural" was the closest they came to releasing a cover version as a single, as this song was based on a French song which in turn had sampled Gabriel Faure's "Pavane." - Rocket000 06:00, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Sclub7-7(original).jpg

[edit]

Image:Sclub7-7(original).jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Improving the article

[edit]

I've made a good start adding sources and citing various statements, as well as making a couple of stylistic changes here and there. I think the way to go next will be to improve the History and split it up into "Eras" as many other music articles have done. - ǀ Mikay ǀ 14:03, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was bold and took the step and did appropriate rewrites. I am completely aware that I goofed up the citations and put them before, instead of after, the punctuation.. but I'll come back to that another time. - ǀ Mikay ǀ 20:42, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comeback

S Club 7 is preparing a comeback: http://uk.news.launch.yahoo.com/dyna/article.html?a=/25092007/364/s-club-7-reunite.html&e=l_news_dm

GA nomination review

[edit]

After a review of the article, I've spotted a number of issues:

  • First of all, the lead should summarise the article adequately. One sentence is not enough; try to summarise their history, musical style and so on.
  • In the interest of broadness, there should be a Musical style section (see Pixies, Wilco and other band FAs for a good example). Plenty has been written about S Club, so it shouldn't be too hard to write such a section.
  • How were the members recruited? This is a fairly important topic in any band article.
  • "however certain suggestions have been" doesn't make sense. I'd suggest rephrasing the sentence.
  • "Another theory is that the name was selected as the letter S is the 19th letter in the alphabet, representing 19 Entertainment." This needs a citation, otherwise it's essentially original research.
  • After this: "The show" doesn't follow, as the last time it was mentioned was several sentences ago.
  • Most of the first paragraph is about Miami 7, rather than the band itself. I suggested moving this to a separate article.
  • "2xPlatinum". Double platinum reads better; I think this is the case throughout the article.
  • Who is "Stargate?". It may be worth clarifying that to the reader.
  • In the LA 7/7 section, the first paragraph is huge, and, as a result, you may struggle to keep the reader's attention. I recommend splitting the paragraph.
  • In the Hollywood 7/Sunshine section, "However, it was their next single which really proved to their breakthrough in this respect" reads like original research to me. Who said this? Also, "which owed more than a little for its style" isn't written formally.
  • In general, there's too much information on single positions and TV shows (which are only tangentially related to the band in many respects), and not enough on the band itself. There's also too many short paragraphs that needs expansion or merging.
  • "We could decide to split after the tour if we wanted to." needs a direct citation.
  • What were the reasons behind splitting up? Surely a newspaper of the day would cover that?
  • The "S Club Juniors / S Club 8" doesn't really deserve another section; why not mention in the history section?
  • The Post-S Club section should be written as prose, rather than presented as a list. Take a look at other band articles for inspiration.
  • There's a {{fact}} tag in the Post-S Club section which should be addressed as soon as possible.
  • A citation is required for the sentence about Jo to meet WP:BLP, "where it was alleged that she along with fellow contestants Jade Goody and Danielle Lloyd had racially bullied another contestant, causing a huge controversy."
  • There's a huge number of fan sites in the External links section; virtually all of them should be removed, as they don't meet WP:EL.
  • Image:HannahPaul kiss.jpg really needs a more substanative fair use rationale. (You can use the template to help). Why is it irreplacable?

For the reasons above, I am putting this article on hold to allow you to address these issues. The hold will expire on 20 October, so if you feel you have addressed the comments above before then, let me know on my talk page. CloudNine 10:33, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much. :) I look forward to your comments and going on to improve the article further. As you can probably tell, I'm extremely passionate about the subject. :) - ǀ Mikay ǀ 15:36, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Title

[edit]

Good article. But why is it under the name S Club? They were known for almost all their career as S Club 7 (only 2 singles as S Club). If they were still together now as S Club fair enough, but they're not.--Tuzapicabit (talk) 17:50, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We've had this debate before. For most of its history, this page was titled S Club 7, but as S Club was the most recent name the band used, it should be titled as such. I'm not sure whether there are specific Wiki guidelines for this, but I think as the most recent name it should be kept. I completely understand your reasoning though; but by the same token.. should the S Club 8 article be renamed S Club Juniors just because they used S Club Juniors for longer? »—Mikaytalkcontribs 18:34, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I would title the article S Club Juniors - it's what they're best known as. Anyone who comes looking for either artist would look for S Club 7 or S Club Juniors - but never mind, I assume there's redirects for both anyway.--Tuzapicabit (talk) 22:38, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll quote from the article: "It is unknown where the name S Club 7 originated, however it has been suggested that the members simply liked that the letter 'S' had many words that began with it." Antivenin 04:07, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think its a cryptic pun on "700 Club". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.27.70.42 (talk) 05:57, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Holly Willoughby

[edit]

I am trying to establish whether Holly started her TV career with S Club 7. All I can find are vague mentions of S club TV, which presumably is the overall name for the series of shows, but is never actually mentioned in the S Club article. Any help? Help with Holly Willoughby requested, too, as someone unnamed has asked for her to be deleted...! Thanks Jubilee♫clipman 05:55, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Almost, there was a series on TV called "S Club TV" which was basically just a kids-zine type show which several presenters presented (Holly Willoughby included). The show basically covered music, and typical kids type VTs. It wasn't really linked to S Club much other than in its name.. It's certainly notable, but I haven't included it in the main article because (as you've probably found) there aren't that many sources about it.. I have a small clipping about it somewhere which I can scan in for you. »—Mikaytalkcontribs 15:50, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I found a review of the show here and there's some information at HollyWilloughby.co.uk
  • I scanned that snippet in for you. click You'll be able to use it as a source, as I've sourced one of the earlier fanzine booklets for a couple of interview quotes. Just use the following reference:

<ref name=fanzine>{{cite press release | title=S Club 7 Fanzine 4 - fanclub press booklet | publisher=Polydor Ltd. | date=[[2000-09-02]] | accessdate=2008-12-24}}</ref>

Merge proposal

[edit]

I'm not sure how much we should include about "S Club 3". I use their name in speech marks because technically, they are not called "S Club 3". Their official touring name is still S Club. Any information (and I think only a little bit should be if it can be correctly sourced) from the S Club 3 article should be merged into this main article. »—Mikaytalkcontribs 14:19, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone read the intro recently?

[edit]

The bit about Aaron, no citations, quite offensive, considering removing.. Looked over previous edits, is by an anon, will change back to being about Bradley as it should.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Thepeganator (talkcontribs) 01:19, 26 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A pun on 700 club?

[edit]

Was "S Club 7" supposed to be a pun on 700 club? I would think so.

Apparently there was a TV series spinoff called "S Club 7" on Fox Family (later ABC Family). Later on the 700 Club started to broadcast on that channel. Is this some kind of coincidence? ("S"even) [700 "Club"] "7". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.27.70.42 (talk) 05:51, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

S ClubS Club 7 – Not just because they're back as S Club 7 now, but to be perfectly honest, almost everyone remembers them as S Club 7 don't they? Unreal7 (talk) 22:21, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support, the 7 is also an improvement in description. S Club has always existed in the context of S Club 7, as did the little known S Club 3. Gregkaye 10:19, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, whilst I disagree that "almost everyone remembering them as S Club 7" is a reason to rename the article as S Club was their previous official name at the time of split (I think we last had this discussion in 2007), I support the renaming now they have reformed and are officially S Club 7 again. »—Mikaytalkcontribs 01:49, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hannah Spearritt

[edit]

While a the most reliable of sources, The Sun have announced the group will be releasing a brand-new single, as a tribute to Paul Cattermole, and it is without Spearritt, thus meaning she is not part of the group. The group's mentioning Spearritt will always be part of S Club is more in meaning of she'll always be a S Club member, by association, not by the literal, current sense. And before it's stated, "The Sun is unreliable," yes, I am aware, however, having an exclusive new photo does provide some modicum of creditability. livelikemusic (TALK!) 21:36, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The BBC source says "Jon Lee said she remained a member of the group." Per WP:STICKTOTHESOURCE I think we have to take this at face value and assume this means what it says: she is still a member of the group. It's also possible to be a member of a group while not taking part in every performance or every release. Popcornfud (talk) 00:21, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We seem to have conflicting sources here. This says Spearritt left the band earlier this year. I've updated the article to say that sources conflict on whether Spearritt is a member. Popcornfud (talk) 18:38, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
