Correction to restart date

[edit]

This "... the event was restarted in 1995." is incorrect. The event restarted in 1994. See the society's own website which lists Spike Milligan as the 1994 Rye Fawkes https://www.ryebonfire.co.uk/history/rye-fawkes/ Also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1sN83uqmW0&ab_channel=RyeInOldFilms SteveHutchings (talk) 10:47, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@SteveHutchings This source [1] states 1995, but this source [2] states 1994. With the primary source from ryebonfire.co.uk agreeing with the latter, I agree and have updated the article to "1994". ResonantDistortion 19:51, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Grand processions

[edit]

The next thing that needs tidying up is:

"...the grand procession, including floats, starting in the 1950s."

Is immediately contradicted in the next sentence by "In 1947 the bonfire event, as documented by Pathé News..."

So "starting in the 1950s" is clearly wrong.

There was definitely an event (procession with floats and fireworks) in 1946. See the Sussex Express number 9575 of November 8, 1946, pages 1 and 8 (available via the British Newspaper Archive) which contains a lengthy report and photos of the tableaux.

It's possible (though I have no evidence either way) that similar "grand processions" took place before WW2. SteveHutchings (talk) 23:45, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
