Producer

[edit]

The info in the main box states "Chuck Harmony", while the same source that made this statement contains "Chase & Status" as the producer. I propose a change to the second one, as stated by the source. Hoodie (talk) 03:50, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Music Video

[edit]

Can someone re-look the information about the music video, If i'm correct it isnt for Russian Roulette rather The Wait Is Ova. On YouTube during the video shoot the track "The Wait Is Ova" was being played. Russian Roulette might be a buzz track. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MichaelB722 (talkcontribs) 03:59, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There needs to be balance in the "critical review section" -the unadulterated gushing from some paid critic overshadows the negative effect that this song will have on the youth community. There will inevitably be some suicides attached to this- and we need someone to pan the song's idiotic and irresponsible subject matter. Rihanna is undeniably a good entertainer but has not a whit of sense and this song proves that beyond the shadow of a doubt. Adults connected with this song need some psychological help themselves- they are so disconnected from reality and this needs some mention in this wiki.```` —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.99.111.86 (talk) 12:14, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is not relevant to the facts of the video. Maybe a controversy section could be added. But it is not a part of critical reception because no critic has mentioned this in their article. Once their is a reference it may be added. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.70.34.87 (talk) 00:21, 18 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The video that says in the article is the video for the second single "The Wait Is Ova" the video for "Russian Roulette" is different.

The article states "a Kashi chamber" but ho where does it say what "a Kashi chamber" is (I for example have no idea). --Desertphile (talk) 23:09, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"At the end of the video her love interest dies, from being killed" - rephrase to something sensible anyone? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.36.192.97 (talk) 16:33, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Music genre

[edit]

The article says that the music is pop, but it is not! Just listen to the music! Could still be electronic, but not pop. Furthermore, no reliable critical spoke in the food of the song just came out yesterday. The source points to a blog, so untrusted source ... Vitorvicentevalente (talk) 22:05, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know the song, but the only references I see call it pop. We can start discussing once there is a reliable source calling it something else, but "listening to it" does not have the slightest impact with regards to WP:V and WP:OR. Amalthea 22:15, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please, if know something about music, you get to know the genre. I found one site, says Genre: R&B. [1] Additionally, the labels have access to the real kind of music. Vitorvicentevalente (talk) 22:26, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I know squat about music, but I don't have to to read and summarize sources. And just as you were right when you said that blogs can't be used as reliable sources, the same is true for retailer sites like the one you just linked to: neither are reliable sources for information here on Wikipedia. Amalthea 22:30, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And you think that this newspaper know more? Sometimes yes but this time, the commentator even idea what is talking about ... well, forget the subject... Vitorvicentevalente (talk) 22:35, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Doesn't matter, really, there is no alternative to WP:V if we want this encyclopedia to remain useful or stable. By the way, on pt-wiki you're using some blog source to claim that Chase & Status had something to do with this, which is completely wrong best I can tell. Prime example of why WP:V/pt:WP:Verificabilidade is so important, people just writing what they think is true is often plain wrong. Amalthea 22:50, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The billboard also says that, and Rihanna did not write the song ... And do not try to teach me to work on the project, because I know much more than many here, including this chearmed ... dogged by pop... Vitorvicentevalente (talk) 22:55, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This Billboard source? No, only has "The Ne-Yo penned and produced song". And again, there are two sources claiming she did co-write (1 2) so we add it, for now. I'm not sure if there are authoritative sources who wrote what. I'm not particularly happy about it either since more sources are only crediting Ne-Yo for both production and writing, but that's what we have. Amalthea 23:17, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, Brazilian Billboard. [2] That portuguese site says "ballad". But of course that is not reliable, is Portuguese ... Vitorvicentevalente (talk) 23:22, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
"Ballad" is not a musical genre, and the Portuguese source also doesn't say that Chase&Status would be producing this single. Amalthea 23:38, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ballad is a genre, ballad music...

"Rihanna may be playing a dangerous game on her first single, "Russian Roulette," but the man who produced the eerie ballad, Chuck Harmony, explains that when he and songwriter Ne-Yo sat down to conceptualize the feel of the track they wanted to take Rihanna's musical vibe to a new level. They didn't want to rehash what fans expect of the singer." [3] So that song is a "ballad".

"We wanted to give her a movie. We didn't want to just give her a three-minute song," Harmony told MTV News. "I felt musically like everybody was gonna give like that 'Disturbia,' 'SOS,' kind of pop, uptempo stuff, and I really wanted the song that me and Ne-Yo did to stand out." [4] So we can translate a song that is a different level, because the producers want to pop, Ne-Yo and Chuck Harmony wanted to give a different song. Vitorvicentevalente (talk) 23:43, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Eh? That's not an argument. Based on that logic, "loud" is also a genre sine there is "loud music". I haven't disputed that the song might be a ballad, sources certainly confirm it.
A ballad in the sense used here is a slow, emotional, popular music song, but usually in the same form or style of other works of the artist. "Dream On" is a rock ballad. "Home Sweet Home" is a glam metal ballad. "Free Bird" is a southern rock ballad. "Yesterday" is a baroque pop ballad. Amalthea 10:37, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And "Russian Roulette" is a contemporary R&B ballad... Not worth it, I give this matter closed, Vitorvicentevalente (talk) 13:17, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think that "Russian Roulette" is a combination of a Ballad, R&B and Alternative Music.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.142.225.47 (talkcontribs) 16:12, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, i agree. Vitorvicentevalente (talk) 14:29, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Writers/Producers

[edit]

Nowhere does it say that Rihanna wrote this song, and Discogs says that both Ne-Yo and Chuck Harmony wrote and produced the song.

I've replaced a few unreferenced chart rankings with Template:singlechart. The template doesn't check to see if the chart rank in the template is correct, but it does cite a chart reference, which makes it easier to confirm a chart ranking when an editor changes it. Unless someone knows of a reason not to use this template, I'd like to see it used everywhere in the charts table. Yappy2bhere (talk) 23:44, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

2 music videos

[edit]

i think there are two versions of the video. the video itself is the same, but in one the final shot isnt heard, and in one it is heard. though i cant find it in the internet, i saw it on tv --84.113.33.181 (talk) 17:58, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unmentioned live performances

[edit]
Did you find some sources for them? I probably didn't add them, cause I couldn't find anything. I tried now, but no success. — Tomica (talk) 21:47, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, I don't see why Youtube can't be used in this case. So annoying. Aaron You Da One 10:46, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Rules are rules. :/ — Tomica (talk) 12:02, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I know lol. The Popstars performance was by far the best of the song. Actually, you can use cite episode. Aaron You Da One 12:03, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
