naming
[edit]According to the Scouting WikiProject, national organizations are named not in English, but in their own primary language. Chris 02:41, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

Proposed move
[edit]The rough English translation is not really in use, in most of the Google-Hits it is used only as translation of the russian name. Even the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts lists the association in its membership roll under the transscripted Russian form.
Also the translated form may lead to ambiguities, since there is a number of russian girls-only Scouting organizations. --jergen 06:02, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
- support move back to proper Russian name, in compliance with 160 other Scout articles on the Wikipedia. Chris 06:56, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose. Leave at proper English name in comliance with English language and common sense. `'mikka (t) 08:10, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose. Why should we follow ridiculous WikiProject rules? Please stick to the common sense. --Ghirla -трёп- 10:15, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose. When I look at Category:WAGGGS member organization, I see a wild mix of naming, with English named articles like Girl Guides Association of Cyprus, or Girl Scouts of Japan. Scout Association of Japan and Korea Scout Association are other examples for English named articles, so I don't really see a consistent naming here at present. I'm not sure whether you're aware that transliteration of names does not equal "proper" naming in the source language, and in many cases differs from transliteration system to transliteration system, and target language to target language. --Nikai 10:47, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose. Wikipedia rules/guidelines (such as "use English names") always overrule those of any WikiProjects.—Ëzhiki (ërinacëus amurënsis) 18:20, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose, per "Use English" policy. If the scouting project doesn't follow that policy, it should. Jonathunder 22:18, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
Survey
[edit]Opinions
[edit]This is an English language wikipedia. There are thousands of Russian organizations. We don't write Ministerstvo Inostranykh Del, we write "Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs" or "Foreign Ministry". And so on. Russian girl scouts are virtually unknown in the west hence hits are of little authority here. You even cannot write its name correctly, and I am not going to teach you. Your "complience with 160 other" means that someone did not think clearly when created them.
If "there is a number of russian girls-only Scouting organizations", and they have the same name, then you cannot help. If the names are different, then what is the problem? `'mikka (t) 08:10, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
