Are the quotes from Shakespeare and Cromwell not references to the cloth rather than the color? The Shakespeare quote also mentions kersey, which is also a type of cloth, and Cromwell's quote refers to a russet coat, which would make as much or more sense in context as a coat made of simple russet cloth as it would as a brown coat. 198.199.208.132 (talk) 03:42, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
