The men of the Royal Sussex serving in the Nile Expedition, like all of the contingents from Egypt, Britain or Mediterranean stations, wore specially ordered foreign service frocks of grey serge, not khaki. At that stage of the campaign khaki-dyed cotton 'drill' clothing was only worn by contingents from India.

The 'Camel Guards' is presumably either a reference to the Guards Camel Regiment, one of three composite units making up the Camel Corps in Major General Stewart's force sent on the futile 'dash' across the Bayuda desert in January 1885, or to the Camel Corps itself.JF42 (talk) 07:45, 14 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
