Wire wheels: Wire wheels#On motorcycles says only main article: Motorcycle construction#Wheels, but that is not a main article, it is a subsection. Bicycle wheel is a better article, but none of these 3 actually explains how spokes support the wheel pre-stressed w/compression.

A fact from Royal Enfield WD/RE appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 21 April 2009 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that the WW2Royal Enfield WD/REmotorcycle was known as the Flying Flea as it was designed to be dropped by parachute from bomber aircraft?
As part of the Motorcycling WikProject I am working though all the missing articles and stubs for British Bikes. To make things easier to sort out there is a special Category:British motorcycles Please add to any British motorcycle pages you find or create. It will also help to keep things organised if you use the Template:Infobox Motorcycle or add it where it is missing. I've linked the Category to the Commons Motorcycles of Britain so you could help with matching pics to articles or adding the missing images to the Commons. The people behind the bikes also bring it all to life - I've created the Category:British motorcycle pioneers so please have a look and see if you can add or expand any? I've seen mention of design links with the DKW 98cc. this would explain similarities to the BSA Bantam derived from the DKW RT125. Any support for this link?GraemeLeggett (talk) 13:37, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Mmm, you'd have to provide references to show that. Personally I think the Bantam looks very similar to the WD/RE, but so do a lot of designs of that era. Well done for adding a link to the welbike, but the link to the Bantam is a bit tenuous.Brutaldeluxe (talk) 14:38, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I was wondering if anyone had anything on the link - it's mentioned on one or two websites but nothing sourced. To my mind the WD/RE (and the Bantam) bear little resemblance to their Enfield and BSA brothers of the time being a small two-stroke engine. Compare a WD B40 with RT 98cc or RT125. If proven I'd suggest a link to the RT 125 but the article is poor at the moment. GraemeLeggett (talk) 15:17, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
