Untitled
[edit]Roy Bennett got released after 8 months of imprisonment, and he wants to focus upon human rights in the future. To be honest; I do not know how to implement that information into this story, since it changes the entire story drastically.
Information about Bennett's release can be found here
Name
[edit]His name is actually Roy Bennet, with one 't'. The mis-spelling with two 't's is very common. I'm moving the page now but there may be some time before all the redirects are dealt with. David | Talk 12:07, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
Roy's surname is Bennett. I promise, I've asked him this a number of times, I've seen his passport and ID card. I realise that much of the Zimbabwean media often write his name as Bennet, or even Benet. But his name is Bennett.
What happened was the Daily News (a former Zimbabwean paper) for some unshakeable reason, started printing his name this way. Check out the spelling in the now historical www.freeroybennett.com, a site created by close friends when he was arrested, if you need any further proof, or this (or any) report by the BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/3965615.stm
I moved the site, and have corrected all the links.
Leadership Challenge
Benet's challenge to Tsvangarai was reported in NewZimbabwe.com on 17th March 'Leadership Challenge undermines Tsvangerai.' I put this in the article. For some reason, it's been removed so I've reinserted it, with the reference. If another editor disagrees with this information being present (or its accuracy) please raise the issue in the edit section.
I've left the reference in, but it's been proved incorrect by the fact that Tsvangarai was elected unopposed, as was Roy to the post of National Treasurer. Happy for someone to delete it as it's turned out to be incorrect.
Abduction
[edit]There is a slight error in the paragraph about the recent developments. Roy was not abducted and later charged when he tried to enter the country. He's been there for a while, hiding at a diplomat's house. On Friday, 13 February, he wanted to go back to Johannesburg to see his family again before being sworn in. I and six other people were on the private plane with Roy and stopped while preparing for take-off. He's appearing before court in Mutare while I'm typing these lines. the charges were changed this morning for the fifth time. Now it is attempting to leave the country illegaly again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.216.47.82 (talk) 10:51, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
