Rose Kerr disambiguation
[edit]It seems there is a Rose Kerr who is a current English art historian specializing in Chinese art. Johnbod (talk · contribs) has added a line to the first paragraph of this article stating "She is not to be confused with Dr Rose Kerr, the English art historian specializing in Chinese art", I reverted, he reverted back. My own view is no confusion is likely to arise given that Rose Kerr the Guide probably died before Rose Kerr the historian lived (and the dates are in the first sentence). In fact confusion is likely to arise by people wondering who this other Rose Kerr is being mentioned right at the beginning of this article. Normally one would use a hatnote but the historian does not have a wikipedia page (though one might be created shortly though there is apparently a debate about notability). Once the page is created then a hatnote can be added to this article (or even a disambiguation page if it is determined they are equally notable) but until then I don't think the historian should be mentioned in this article. I think this is related to WP:NOARTICLE; if we don't have an article to redirect to we shouldn't mention that someone of the same name exists and isn't this person unless there is some direct connection (e.g., this Rose Kerr is grandmother of the historian). After all should we also mention Rose Kerr who is director of education in Staten Island or Rose Kerr who is an expert on fish? --Erp (talk) 05:36, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- The art historian is a good deal more notable (these days) than the guider, and is likely to have a page soon. The note at least tells people she doesn't have a page yet. Why not stop trying to whip up a storm in a teacup? Johnbod (talk) 05:42, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- Then use a redlinked hatnote even though those are frowned upon unless the article will show up in a day or two; it will save you having to come back to edit this page once the article is created. The current situation will only leave people who come for the Guide leader confused. Remember both are notable in only small areas. --Erp (talk) 06:02, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- I agree with user:Erp, that's what hatnotes are for. If there is no article, write one or there is no issue. Not for lead paragraph.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 08:36, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
