I'd like to propose removing this sentence from the article:
> In some developed parts of the world, it may be illegal for siblings of the opposite sex to share a room if they are above a certain age, while it would be fine to do so with a sibling of the same sex or gender identity
The sentence uses very vague terms like "some developed parts of the world" and "may be illegal", and I couldn't find any evidence of this when I searched online. I followed the citation, and page 51 of the book discusses "parenthood provisions in the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Acts" and how they relate to same-sex parents, not sibling room sharing. I propose removing this sentence for now, unless someone can provide a credible source for this statement?

- I've removed this for the stated reasons. Just in case there was a mistake or different edition, I looked around the cited page and cannot see any sign of anything like this although I was only using the limited Google Books preview. I also looked at the chapters and cannot see any where this would natural fit in suggesting if it is there, it's more of an aside. Since this was added by the creator, I checked to see if this was a problem with the other sources but while I initially feared a problem since the second source also didn't seem to have the info (about room sharing among Mayans in Guatemala), I later found something by searching inside the book via Google books which sort of supports what we say although the page didn't match that provided by the creator. I don't know if this was due to a different edition or a mistake, but I updated the page accordingly. (No edition is provided so even if it's because of a different edition both are equally valid.) It occurred to me after this I never tried searching the earlier book but even having searched via terms like siblings, sharing, share and room I could not find sign of the legality of room sharing among siblings. Perhaps the creator added the wrong source. (I also briefly looked at two of the other creations and it looks like the info there does correlate with the sources so I don't think we have a general problem where they were adding stuff which doesn't match the references.) The creator only briefly edited in 2015-2016 so there's probably no point in asking them for help. Nil Einne (talk) 13:01, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
- BTW, I didn't confirm the third ref matches what we say about room sharing occurring where it's needed even in cultures where it's not normal, in part because the page isn't available although a text search does suggest the page talks about sharing. I feel the bigger issue with it is I'm not sure we should be using a book about "Poverty and Deviance in Early Modern Europe" to talk about this generally which I think most would understand to be talking about the modern day even if it's something that has been the case for a long time. Still it's not enough of a problem I feel it needs removal since it's a fairly innocuous statement Nil Einne (talk) 13:16, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
