Removed flag of Italian Republic from Infobox, per WP:ICON.

[edit]

I removed the Italian Republic flag (of 1946) icon from the Infobox, in accordance with several sections of WP:ICON; specifically (quoting),

  • Generally, flag icons should not be used in infoboxes, even when there is a "country", "nationality" or equivalent field: they are unnecessarily distracting and give undue prominence to one field among many....
  • Flags make simple, blunt statements about nationality, while words can express the facts with more complexity. [Faenza was at times part of the Lombard Kingdom, the Holy Roman Empire, the Papal States, and the Kingdom of Italy] ....
  • Do not rewrite history. Flags should not be used to misrepresent the nationality of a historical figure [including some bishops], event, object, etc. Political boundaries change, often over the span of a biographical article subject's lifetime. Where ambiguity or confusion could result, it is better not to use a flag at all, and where one is genuinely needed, use the historically accurate flag.

Parishes of the diocese

[edit]

Problems with this section, and its very long list of parishes:

  • (1) Individual items are not referenced; at the moment, then, the Section too is unreferenced.
  • (2) Wiki-links are to Italian civil communes, not to parishes, and the communes do not deal with parishes; the article is not, nor should it be, a directory to communes in the ecclesiastical diocese of Faenza-Modigliani.
  • (3) doubtful purpose for the list, which the section does not make clear. Is the list notable? Simply because it exists and can be cut-and-pasted, does not make it notable. What is done on one language wiki (in this case the Italian wiki) is not necessarily appropriate to another langugae wiki. Different wikis have different policies.
  • (4) The list lacks context. The relationship of Deanaries to the diocese is not addressed.
  • (5) Since the revision of the Concordat between the Italian Republic and the Vatican in 1984, the Italian Republic has not had a state religion. That fact makes links to civil political communes problematical.
  • (6) In recent years, the number of parishes in Italian dioceses has been diminishing. This has been the case with Faenza. The list is already obsolete.

The list, which IMO contributes nothing of value to the article, should probably be deleted or made a separate list-article, unless the problems mentioned can be addressed.
