My reasons for reconstructing this deleted article.
[edit]This article was deleted by an editor (discovered to have been a sockpuppet of an editor who has been banned indefinitely from Wikipedia for abusing multiple accounts), giving as his or her reasons that Roger Hicks had no works outside of the Zoot rock group he was a member of, and also saying that no references or sources were given, and saying that if they could be given, the article could be reconstructed. The reasoning was that, since he was supposedly known only for his work with Zoot, then he didn't need an article of his own, and the one on Zoot barely mentions him at all - something that perhaps needs to be rectified.
Both the statements given by that previous editor are incorrect. Roger Hicks does have work outside of Zoot, and it is arguably what he is most remembered for now, this being the acoustic guitar introduction to Russell Morris's "The Real Thing", which was composed and performed by Roger Hicks - as the article said! The sockpuppet editor seemed to overlook that when saying Roger Hicks had no work outside of Zoot. But that introduction is famous. I have heard it several times in television advertising, and anyone who has seen the film "The Dish" has heard that introduction, since it is used at the start to establish the time of the film as being set in the late 1960s.
The other incorrect statement was that the article had no references to sources, but this is incorrect - again, as can be seen, there are two references, and more can be found if necessary.
Since the deletion was based on two statements that are incorrect, I believe I am justified in bringing this article back as it stood. It is true that I have used not quite the last version, but that is because the two or so versions after the one I am using contain an unsourced and incorrect statement.
If anyone disputes this and wishes to delete the article again, please contact me before deleting it, and we can talk about it. Thanks. M.J.E. (talk) 16:44, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- @M.J.E.:: There's a discussion about moving this article into Zoot at Talk:Zoot (band)#Proposed merge of Roger Hicks (rock musician) into Zoot (band), which you may be interested in contributing to.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:32, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you. I was unaware until today that this was happening. I've added an argument supporting "Keep", and I hope I haven't done so too late (I don't know if there's any formal deadline for these kinds of debates). M.J.E. (talk) 17:32, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- One expects such matters to be resolved in a suitable time frame. With only one response in a month the matter could have remained unresolved. shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:27, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
