The situation in Canada

As of today, December 27, 2007, stores have the XBox and PS3 versions of the game, but not the PS2 version. Can't seem to find any word about when that will be available in Canada. Frasor (talk) 22:49, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

The ps2 release date for Canada is contradicted on the right side section by the main article itself. Has it been released as of the 27th or is the release date the 9th of January? And is there a source I'm missing for the 9th as a release date? I looked all over the net and couldn't dig anything up on it. Lokithx (talk) 19:10, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

bestbuy.ca says "releases Jan. 9." That's where I got the date. However, Toys R Us has it stocked as of today and if it was available at Best Buy stores on December 30th, that contradicts even Best Buy's own information, so who knows? Frasor (talk) 20:02, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

I myself have not got my preordered copy at EB games in Moncton, New Brunswick (still first on the list). And at this time my friends who work there say there's no confirmed arrival date. Seems like its really mixed up right now. Lokithx (talk) 21:11, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

I worked at best buy in the media division during the holiday season and we had conflicting dates, so as employees we had no idea at first. But one day in late December (i cant remember now, but its in the Wiki history) we were allowed to put three ps2 bundles out on the floor. And it was completely legit. I picked one of them up and set it up that very day.74.12.180.57 (talk) 03:48, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Wii Game?

It says that the game is coming out for the wii (at Wikipedia). Is this true? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.238.88.55 (talk) 00:36, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

The only thing mentioned in this article is that there is "no official announcement regarding a Wii version".
So unless there is a verifiable source saying otherwise, a Wii version is not in development. lightsup55 ( T | C ) 00:43, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Does this count?Omdfg (talk) 14:22, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
That works as a source. I believe it's already been included in an article. Kotaku and other prominent video game news sites have confirmed the same thing. —Shanesan (contribs) (Talk) 21:08, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Should we take out this then? "...and possibly Wii consoles..."JIMfoamy1 (talk) 12:28, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
I did, as [1] says there will be no DLC or online play for the Wii. Travisl (talk) 17:00, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

I've just copied the above from WP:RM, where it was listed in the "incomplete proposals" section. Consulting this talk page, a few sections up, it's clear that this page was just moved from Rock Band a little while ago, so before anybody decides to move it back, I thought I'd try to bring all the discussion to the same page. I would also direct the attention of anyone interested to Talk:Rock band, where I've left a comment about why that page really needs to say redirected to Rock music, unless someone does something about the 2300 broken links first. -GTBacchus(talk) 00:51, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Yes Rock Band will be coming to the Wii. Electronic Arts (EA) Confirmed it the week of Feb. 1, 2008. GA Review: On Hold

I have reviewed this article according to the requirements of the GA criteria and have placed the article on hold until the following issues are addressed. As you address each issue, either strike through the statement/place a check mark next to the issue and state how you addressed it. If you disagree with any of the issues I raised, state your rationale for disagreeing after the issue.

  1. Image:Rock band cover.jpg This image should be reuploaded at a smaller size (around 400px for one of the dimensions) according to 3b of the Non-free content criteria. Once it is uploaded to a smaller size, add {{non-free reduced}} to the image page. The same goes for Image:Rock-band-screen.jpg and Image:Rockband-band-world-tour.jpg.
  2. "Pressed for office space, Harmonix was forced to move its offices in the middle of Rock Band's beta period in order to support the company's 130-person staff.[14]" Single and brief two-sentence paragraphs shouldn't stand alone. Either expand on the information or incorporate it into another paragraph. Fix any other occurrences throughout the article.
  3. "Solo Tour Mode" and "Band World Tour" don't need to be bolded.
  4. "On January 4, 2008, video game peripherals..." Full dates should be wikilinked; fix any other occurrences throughout the article if applicable.
  5. Go through the inline citations and ensure that all of the links are currently active and update the access dates (some haven't been reviewed since August). This will alert readers to which links are still currently active.

The article was interesting to read and only had a few minor problems. Good job on getting the free images of the instruments. I will leave the article on hold for seven days for the above issues to be addressed. If they are fixed then I will pass the article; if not, it may be failed. If you have any questions or when you are done, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 08:37, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

GA passed

Good job with addressing most of the above issues. I have passed this article according to the requirements of the GA criteria. There are still a few single sentences that should be expanded on, and when you have the time, the access dates should be updated. Continue to improve the article, making sure that all new information is properly sourced. Also, to anyone that is reading this review, please consider reviewing an article or two at WP:GAN to help with the very large backlog. Instructions can be found here. Each new reviewer that helps to review articles will help to reduce the time that articles wait to be reviewed. Keep up the good work, and I hope that you continue to bring articles up to Good Article status. If anyone disagrees with this review, an alternate opinion can be sought at Good article reassessment. If you have any further questions about this review, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. I have updated the article history to reflect this review. Happy editing! --Nehrams2020 (talk) 07:03, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Vic Firth

My addition that the drumsticks are manufactured by Vic Firth has been undone twice, once without comment and again with a note about Roland and non-branding.

Harmonix press release stated that Vic Firth manufactured the supplied drum sticks, and this is reinforced by in-game content and the printed literature. In-game mention especially points to reference as this is static content. I said nothing about branding, nor brand names on the drum sticks themselves. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.81.30.21 (talk) 22:50, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

The drumsticks on my kit are branded "Ludwig." I don't know anything about drumsticks but I believe that to be a different brand. [2] Oren0 (talk) 04:02, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Sounds like Harmonix ran out of the Vic Firths too late to change the content. Out of curiosity, have you gotten one of the several Vic Firth advertisements in-game? Mine refer to the drum sticks "you're using." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.81.30.21 (talk) 04:48, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Additional Guitars

I have not yet got a chance to play the game yet, but as far as I know, the game only comes with 1 guitar. Any idea where a bass guitar might be purchased? It would be good for the 'Links' section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.164.220.247 (talk) 22:48, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

The one packaged in the bundle and the guitar controller that will be sold separately are the same. They can be used as bass or lead guitar. According to GameStop's website, the wireless guitar, drum set, and microphone (for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360) will each be sold separately and will be available on March 04, 2008. This is already mentioned in the article, but without a release date. Lightsup55 ( T | C ) 00:38, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Image:Rock-band-screen.jpg - bass and lead guitar (left vs. right)

Image:Rock-band-screen.jpg is a screenshot of Rock Band, demonstrating the user interface for playing each instrument.

The problem is that there have been few edits (such as this edit) that have changed the bass and lead guitar from
bass (left), drums (middle), lead guitar (right), vocals (top)
bass (right), drums (middle), lead guitar (left), vocals (top)

I don't know if it is possible to change what area of the screen you play on when playing offline in Rock Band, however, I do know that it is possible to do that in the Guitar Hero games (such as Guitar Hero II and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.

Since I don't have the game, I don't know if this edit is correcting the article or if it is vandalism. What I do know (based on videos I've seen on YouTube) is that when you play online, icons display to show what each instrument/part each player is playing.

Is there a way to tell which side bass and lead guitar is on in Image:Rock-band-screen.jpg? If there is, someone should update the image with that note somewhere to prevent further confusion.

Lightsup55 ( T | C ) 22:06, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

The blue bg of the left track occurs when the bass player hits "Bass groove" (if it were overdrive, the edges would have yellow patterns as well). --MASEM 22:11, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Masem is correct. It's like Guitar Hero, in that either instrument can be on either side. In this case, bass is on the left. Oren0 (talk) 23:12, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Ah, I see. Thanks for pointing that out. Lightsup55 ( T | C ) 23:45, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Also, the left player has a 6x multiplier, which is only possible for bass. All other instruments only go up to 4x. --Maxamegalon2000 03:48, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
I could have sworn I've seen 8x on drums and others... 67.187.78.203 (talk) 18:46, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
Only during the solo tour when activating Overdrive. In Band World Tour, Overdrive multiplies the entire band's score, and shows up on top instead of adding to each instrument's multiplier. --Maxamegalon2000 18:58, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Canadian PS2 release date correct?

When I was working at HMV, we had copies of the regular edition and were selling them sometime before Christmas. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thenedisoverthere (talkcontribs) 23:17, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Some notes

I just reread the article and remember taking a picture of a Rock Band kisok van when it came to my campus, so I'll upload that to put it in the article.

Second, there HAS GOT TO BE a better place for the Rock Band heist than a "popular culture" one. There just has to be. hbdragon88 (talk) 05:44, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

The Redirect

Searching "Rock Band" on Wikipedia now redirects to "Rock Music"....this needs to be changed back. I don't know how to do it, but someone please do it. Doshindude (talk) 03:12, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Correction: Rock Band redirects to Rock Band (video game) while Rock band redirects to Rock music. It is very likely that anyone searching for the video game will capitalize the "B" when they type it, which will bring them to the correct article. For the very few instances where someone doesn't capitalize the "B", then they will end up on the wrong page. That is why there is a Hatnote at the top of Rock Band (video game) and Rock music just in case the user was looking for the other article. Lightsup55 ( T | C ) 04:07, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

I think that 'rock band,' 'Rock Band,' and 'Rock band' should all redirect to the video game page. If you put yourself into the position of someone searching up any of those, it would most likely be for the game, and not for a band that plays rock music. Or, at least keep it this way for the next 5 years, when the game Rock Band is still a more popular topic than a band that plays rock music. 71.108.180.142 (talk) 02:54, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

I agree that most searchers don't capitalize and people who search "rock band" are probably looking for the game. The issue is that there are a ton of pages that link to Rock band that aren't about the video game. Have a look at just a few. Those links all need to be fixed before such a move can even be discussed. Oren0 (talk) 03:21, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
Oh, that makes sense. Well... okay then. 71.108.180.142 (talk) 05:56, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Whenever I searched for this article, i typed "rock band." I think it needs to all redirect to the game page. Doshindude (talk) 02:41, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Australia!

Yo, Does anybody have a clue when, and or if, Rock Band will be released here in Australia? I been on the edge of my seat but cant find out about Rock Band, people simply stating, "Its Northen Hemisphere only", help us out would ya Rupert 59 (talk) 04:12, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

You can read why Rock band isn't available in Australia here. Silimike (talk) 14:00, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Crowd singing

Should it be mentioned somewhere that if you play good enough the crowd will sing along to some of the songs? It's not an extremely important detail, but since the game stresses playing as a band, and even has a system for counting fans - I thought maybe it might be something to consider. I personally love it when the crowd is singing along. It tells me I am playing well, but it also enhances the experience just a bit. Just a thought.--Magus05 (talk) 09:04, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

That doesn't happen for the Wii version. Also, anyone know where i can find a third-party guitar controller that will work with the Wii's Rock Band? 67.81.155.120 (talk) 22:08, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Hardware Versions

EA is updating their hardware. For example, the drum sets started with version EL, then went to QM, and there is a new version SL.

Perhaps someone who knows more about this could add it to the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.210.51.222 (talk) 06:59, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Gibson lawsuit

As Gibson guitars has gone and sued RB's makers for the same thing it's arguing at Activision about, I think it is wise to keep the discussion of the legal issues to one article; thus, I've added the mention here, but I've pointed the discussion to what is there at the Guitar Hero (series) page, and recommended that only very specific RB related info on the case be added here as it develops. --MASEM 22:43, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

European release

On several occasions now, I've put a line in the article talking about the European release, or rather the lack of news about it.

Several times it's been removed, because apparently I've made a little mistake. Could we, y'know, at least keep that line of mine in there, because ignoring the problem does not contribute to a solution. If I've made a mistake, feel free to change it but don't just outright delete it. (217.123.74.70 (talk) 06:49, 25 March 2008 (UTC))

The mistake is not citing it, which is cause for removal. Find a reputable reference, cite the information you wish to put in the article, and it would stay. ~QuasiAbstract (talk/contrib) 08:02, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
You're joking, right? You're lucky I just noticed a Harmonix employee stating they can't release any information about the release date on the official forums, or I'd have to find some way to report you lot for trolling, or something. I mean, seriously. How would YOU cite non-information?

EDIT: AND you're lucky I don't know how to add a reference. Here's the link, however. Feel free to edit it in. http://www.rockband.com/forums/showpost.php?p=429454&postcount=837

... citing stuff you can't cite. What next?(217.123.74.70 (talk) 17:08, 25 March 2008 (UTC))

I don't know, how about trying to add stuff you can't cite? --Maxamegalon2000 17:30, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Did that multiple times, which brought up my discussion here on the talk-page. It just keeps getting deleted because it's not cited. (My money's on EA employees deleting it because they don't want the truth out. ;) ) (217.123.74.70 (talk) 17:35, 25 March 2008 (UTC))
I'm sorry; I should have made it more clear that I was being snippy and implying that "trying to add stuff you can't cite" is as absurd an idea as "citing stuff you can't cite." As QuasiAbstract said, information added to the article must be cited or it cannot be added. --Maxamegalon2000 18:04, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Who wants to go through this and get anything I can't get on paper out of there? I'm sure we'll end up with a significantly shorter article. In any case, I've added a source on what I wanted to add, now if anybody is kind enough to actually add it, because I'm afraid to touch the references part of the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.123.74.70 (talk) 18:34, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Okay... let's try this again. There is no way to cite this fact, because EA/Harmonix won't go around telling people that they don't have a release date. It's only through excessive nagging that the people on the Rock Band forums even got to HEAR they can't offer a date yet. Only through that I've found that source.

But even if I hadn't, isn't it still valid for adding? I'm sure I can find a lot of pages which have uncited facts, but are allowed because it's only logical that they CAN'T be cited, or that a citing is abundant. (217.123.74.70 (talk) 18:46, 25 March 2008 (UTC))

Partial EU launch

"It is due for release in three countries in Europe, (namely the UK, France and Germany) as a timed exclusive on Xbox 360 on May 23, 2008."
This is an announcement made by the developers themselves, posted on their forums. I can find at least one other image that will proof the validity of their own statement, but I'm thinking a Dev's word should be enough. (217.123.74.70 (talk) 17:40, 13 April 2008 (UTC))

Stage Show Peripherals

I recently saw, at a Florida Gamestop, that there is a new peripheral coming out for Rock Band that consists of stage show items inluding a mini stage, stage lights, and a fog machine and maybe more. It said on the display box that it was for the Xbox 360. Don't know if there will be a PS3 version. So maybe someone should find proof that there is one for either.Bobert1358 (talk) 13:15, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Doesn't sound very plausible. A fog machine that plugs into your TV? Find it a little difficult to belive. Citation would be nice. --CrazyOmega (talk) 20:25, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Oh, it's real. I'm just not sure if it's worth mentioning. --Maxamegalon2000 01:03, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Frontman Wii Guitar

I was checking around the citations, and it is unknown that the Nyko Frontman Controller will be compatible with the future version of Rock Band for the Wii. Request move: Rock Band

It seems rather pointless to have the undisambiguated title Rock Band redirect to this article, which has the addition of (video game). This should be uncontroversial, so I request an admin to make the move. User:Krator (t c) 15:44, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Not that I necessarily agree or disagree with the consensus (I'm still unconvinced), but it was already discussed and decided against. See Talk:Rock Band (video game)/Archive 2#Requested move. Travisl (talk) 16:45, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
This has been discussed multiple times. The issue is that tons of pages for bands link to rock band, meaning bands not the video game. Oren0 (talk) 20:39, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Australian release date

I've noticed the Australian release date come and go on this page, and I'm wondering if it's reliabe. I mean, it's not far after the UK release date, in fact for most consoles it's BEFORE it, and there was a big announcement and song and (very angry) dance about that (and the price), whereas Australia has nothing - just PALGN's word. Unless I'm missing something. Can anyone tell me how PALGN knows this? Are they usually reliable? Also, the PalGN page says the Wii version will come out here on that same day, but that's not in the release date section. Should I add it?202.1.119.225 (talk) 14:07, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

The current date listed also appears to be incorrect. The page referenced states that the date was an unsubstantiated rumor and as we are now almost there and no retailer is able to offer an official date it should probably be removed.203.10.111.39 (talk) 03:29, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World

I added a blurb in the awards section about the creators being named 2 of the 100 Most Influential People in the World by Time Magazine. I read this in a copy of the magazine with in the last two weeks at the doctor's office. I can't remember what month/year the article was and I don't own a copy so I can't cite it correctly and I can't remember the quote I tried to add verbatim. I think the point is valid and worthy of being entered and unfortunately I can't find my citation. Maybe someone has it out there and can add it for me, or at least point me to it so I can. Thanks Dachande (talk) 14:46, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Redirection linking...?

I find it bizarre that "Rock Band" links here, but "rock band" links to the article about rock music and musicians... Is tis just something that has been overlooked or is this an intentional discrepancy? Hawk505 (talk) 03:36, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

I believe that the the very first letter isn't case sensitive but every other letter is. So "rock Band" and "Rock Band" are the same, but "rock band" (which is the same as "Rock band") is different. TechMath (talk) 22:14, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
This is intentional and was the result of lots of fighting between the editors of this page and the editors of the now no longer existent rock band page. The issue is that lots of pages of actual bands start with "The Band Names are a rock band that..." linking to a page about rock bands in general. We didn't want to break all those links. Those pages shouldn't be linking to Rock Band (capital B) though, and we figured if someone is searching for that they're more likely looking for this page. Oren0 (talk) 04:05, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

European (and Australian?) pricing controversy

Is there a reason why the public controversy about the pricing in (at least) Europe is reported only as a minor detail in Bundle and pricing section? I've found this article concerning rock band: http://www.mygamer.com/index.php?page=globalnews&mode=viewnews&id=2864 which claims that a Pink Floyd edition will be released. Is this true? If so, should it be put in the article? Sorry, never mind.

. You saw the date on that posting right? Oren0 (talk) 22:19, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Wii band world tour

There are no sources that I can see that show Rock Band Wii will have PS2 like BWT. In fact, on gamespot and nintendowiifanboy, I think they even said it was like the 360/PS3 versions. frogTape (talk) 04:58, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Just played it tonight, it has the same BT (and it's called Band Tour on the Wii version, not BWT) as the PS2 version, with a predetermined tiered setlist. Doshindude (talk) 04:41, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Rock Band 2 Confirmed

See the talk page of [Rock Band 2] for more details- would like to keep this on the correct article if possible. Razer922 (talk) 08:14, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

I would imagine this means we'll need a "series" article for this. Especially since the two games have common elements (shared DLC, instruments, gameplay...) -- TRTX T / C 13:46, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Not yet - let's at least see how different RB2 develops to be. I don't believe we split GH into a series until after III was announced. --MASEM 13:50, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
In the meantime, I've created Rock Band (series) and redirected to RB1's article. In retrospect it's probably better to have a stub of some sort with links to both RB1 and RB2. -- TRTX T / C 13:56, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Wii DLC=NO

I would have thought someone would've caught this but if the track packs are coming out, why does the beginning of the article say, "the Wii version will not initially support downloadable content."? That source is really old. I'm changing it. frogTape (talk) 02:52, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Need a Guitar compatibility matrix wiki page

Can someone who knows what they're doing create a page where we can chart all of the versions of GH and RB versus the various versions of the instruments so people can know what works? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.57.134.2 (talk) 19:16, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Requested move

Because "Rock Band" redirects to "Rock Band (video game)", "Rock Band (video game)" should move to "Rock Band".--Darknus823 (talk) 17:29, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

However it would then only be a capital letter away from Rock band, which is a redirect to the section on rock bands in Musical ensemble. Capitalisation is a poor disambiguator, so oppose. Narson (talk) 20:20, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
This has been requested again and again (check the archives). We don't want the page name to only be separated by capitalization from Rock band. And tons of bands link to Rock band meaning it in the literal sense so we can't take that over either. This is the only way. Oren0 (talk) 07:27, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
As noted above, Rock Band redirects to Rock Band (video game) (per an RfD discussion), so that argument is entirely invalid (because any search for or link to "Rock Band" already will bring readers to this article.) The redirect also contradicts our naming conventions by needlessly redirecting "Foo" to "Foo (disambiguation term)".
And we certainly don't need a two-article disambiguation page (something rendered entirely counterproductive by hatnotes), which was the original reason behind the ill-advised move from Rock Band to Rock Band (video game). —David Levy 11:46, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
Hrm? No, the point was that Rock band is different to Rock Band. We deprecate disambiguation by capitalisation. Rock Band would differ from Rock band only by the capital B. I seriously doubt any case is being made here that the Rock Band series of games is the primary usage. Narson (talk) 12:40, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
1. No, the point is that Rock Band redirected to Rock Band (video game), so anyone searching for or following a link to "Rock Band" (with an uppercase "B") already reached this article (and this was formally decided via an RfD discussion).
2. When/where was it determined that "we deprecate disambiguation by capitalisation"? We always have sought to avoid parenthetical disambiguation whenever feasible, and this includes the use of a proper noun for which an uncapitalized variant is a generic term.
3. The video game connotation certainly isn't the primary usage of the phrase "rock band," but the proper noun "Rock Band" is a different matter. Users should be familiarized with our naming conventions, and sending them to a friendly hatnote is a good way to accomplish this while also getting them to the desired article in an expedient manner.
4. Nonetheless, it is reasonable to assert that the title Rock Band should redirect to Musical ensemble#Rock and pop bands. If that were the case, Rock Band (video game) would be an appropriate title for this article. But that wasn't the case. —David Levy 12:56, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
At the capitalization page it indicates a hatnote on each, though then at the precision page it lists parentheses as a method. The general trend at RM that I've observed is that movements to a title where only capitalisation is the difference are rarely passed. If you are saying in point four that Rock Band should go to Rock band's target, then I'd agree with that. EDIT: I should add that moving the page in the middle of an WP:RM is probably not ideal.Narson (talk) 13:12, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
1. The method currently utilized (disambiguation via capitalization) is recommended at both of the above pages. (Note the second page's "Red Meat vs. Red meat" example, which is exactly the same type of situation.) The "parentheses" example refers to an instance in which both articles' titles are proper nouns and the only difference in capitalization is arbitrary.
2. My opinion is that is this article should be entitled Rock Band (per both Wikipedia:Naming conventions (capitalization) and Wikipedia:Naming conventions (precision)), but Rock Band (video game) would be a suitable title if Rock Band redirected elsewhere. But it redirected to this article, and that practice (redirecting "Subject" to "Subject (disambiguation term)") is something that should be corrected on-sight (because such a setup shouldn't exist under any circumstance).
There are two methods of rectifying the problem (moving the article to the title occupied by the redirect or changing the redirect's target). I selected the former method, which had no effect on the encyclopedia's navigational structure (because all of the pertinent titles still lead to the same articles), so this caused no disruption; it merely corrected a clear-cut violation of our naming conventions (redirecting a term to the same term followed by parenthetical disambiguation). Given the fact that the Rock Band title's target (this article) recently was determined via an RfD discussion, this was the most appropriate course of action.
Any decision to use a title other than Rock Band for this article is contingent upon Rock Band being assigned to a different page (either directly or as a redirect). —David Levy 13:56, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Is the European Wii release date correct?

Do we have any sources at all that confirm that the Wii version of Rock Band is set for a European release the 12th September? I have been looking around to find any gaming site that may support, but with no success. (Note: I am one of many Europeans ready to buy the Wii version when it ships to where I live, and I think I speak for all of *us* when I say that it's not too fun to be incorrectly informed.) Oh, by the way, screw that. I just found a source that confirms that Rock Band will be released in Europe for all other consoles than the Xbox 360 (Wii, PS3, PS2) on September 22, 2008, so I'm putting it into the info box right now. http://www.gamersdailynews.com/story-4320-Rock-Band-Price-Cut-for-Europe-UK.html A Powerful Weakness (talk) 22:50, 14 September 2008 (UTC)A Powerful Weakness

Rock Band being original in japan?

The lawsuit is even cited in the article. Did the writer not read it? Konami has had a Rock Band-esque game released in japan for almost a decade, it's known now as Guitar Freaks & DrumMania, based off of guitar and drums, with three tabs on the guitar and five pads on the drum. It's really old news that guitar hero ripped the idea off and added two buttons, so I don't know why the writer of this article thinks it's news at all.

Not to mention, Konami also released the original Karaoke Revolution games, which Harmonix owns the right to in america and europe. Which means, no single part, nor pair (excluding karaoke) is unique to japan's gaming market. GFDM has been their "rock band" for almost a decade longer than Rock Band itself has existed.

I'm removing that line; if anyone disagrees, feel free to reply. Psydude (talk) 02:20, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Which line are we talking about? If you are talking about "Rock Band: Japan" there's HMX's press release and a second source to back up that it's in the works, regardless of the issue of music games in Japan (which I think would be irrevelent; Guitar Hero III has sold nearly 100,000 copies in Japan as well). --MASEM 02:23, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
I noted the source, and instead added a line to "correct" what Harmonix has said. Psydude (talk) 02:27, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
You're misreading it. Obviously RB: japan would not be the first game in Japan to use such instruments. The HMX quote is that this would be the first game, which originally was developed in the US, to be brought and localized to Japan (GHIII was not). (For comparison, GFreaks and the like were Japanese developed and then brought to the states; RB:Japan would be the reverse direction. --MASEM 02:30, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Why'd the RB: Japan part get deleted? わwaらraうu Smile! 22:04, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Should we create "Rock Band (series)"?

There's now two games, as well as two track packs. I think there's enough here to warrant a Rock Band (series) article. It would allows us to have one central place to discuss the new Export feature (instead of tucking it away inside a specific game article), and would also allow us to trim some of the duplicate information from the various articles by having one place for gameplay descriptions. What's everybody's thoughts on this? -- TRTX T / C 12:32, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes, this will simplify the gameplay and instrument sections of both game articles. And I'd bet a lot of money that there will be a RB3 in the future. --MASEM 12:40, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
I have a sandbox available at User:TRTX/RB if we need a place to hold on to while we put it together. -- TRTX T / C 17:16, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
The article about the series should receive the title Rock Band, with the article about the first entry occupying Rock Band (video game). This is the setup used for Guitar Hero. —David Levy 23:09, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Track Pack Vol 2

Just saw a product page for a Track Pack Vol 2 on EBGames.com

Should this be mentioned somewhere?

Split Development section?

The article's getting awfully big, so I believe we should split something, and that seems to be the best section to split. - A Link to the Past (talk) 20:18, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

See the above suggestion of making a Rock Band (series) article akin to the structure of the Guitar Hero series. The gameplay stuff can be easily moved into there, as well as a bit about the development (the history of HMX up through and just after they were bought by MTV Games). This seems to be an easier route. --MASEM 20:26, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Rock Band series article is up

I've gone ahead and expanded the Rock Band (series) article, hoping to merge much of the gameplay information. Please feel free to add to that as well as take from here for it. --MASEM 20:54, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Rename proposal

I believe that there's enough now that I purpose the following naming scheme:

I think it's clear that now when people think "Rock Band" (and video games) they mean the general series and not specifically the first title (this helps because HMX designed the series to be a platform, not deseperate games). This also matches with Guitar Hero's approach, although obviously there's been more time there for the series to be developed fully.

Any serious objections to this? --MASEM 22:33, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Why does the series article talk link lead here?

I noticed that the Rock Band (series) article leads to the correct spot, but the "Discussion" link leads to the talk page for Rock Band (video game). Any idea what that's the case? -- TRTX T / C 19:16, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Something that could warrant inclusion

Joystiq article from CES. Apparently HMX is interested in using RB to offer DLC and digital copies of music in a bundle of sorts. Is there enough info in this article to warrant it being mentioned somewhere in the Rock Band (series) article? -- TRTX T / C 19:17, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

A-class nomination

Support for A-class, although I wonder if all the information about the pricing is necessary. Tezkag72私にどなる私のはかい 20:58, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

I also support A-class, though I agree with Tezkag72's comments. Also, the review infobox is huge. Might want to trim it down a bit, and then I don't see why it couldn't also be nominated for FA status. Vantine84 (talk) 15:15, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
