Date of death January 2 or June 10?
[edit]Mill 1 I noticed you added the date of death as January 2, 1995 but without including a source. In looking for a source to verify that day, I could not find one. I also discovered that the German and Italian language wikipedia pages (I didn't check the others) both give the date of death as June 10. Where did you find the January 2 date? I reverted the content for the moment until we can figure out which date is accurate based in reliable sources. Any help figuring this out would be appreciated. - As I stated in the edit description the date of January 2 can be found in the corresponding Wikidata item: https://wikidata.org/wiki/Q3938840. In most cases the source can be found in the field Date of death. Regards, Mill 1 (talk) 22:22, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Mill 1 Thanks for getting back to me. Wikidata states it has one source for the date of death, but it doesn't actually name the source or provide a link. In clicking on the library links in the Wikidata page they all have only the year 1995 in the sources, but no day. I'm skeptical that there is a reference for the January 2 date to be found there. If you have any luck, let me know. In looking at the other wiki articles, only the French wikipedia page gives the date of January 2 (possibly this is where the January 2 day is being generated in the wikidata?). The German and Italian wikis both give June 10. All three pages use the Roberto Gerardi bio from the Dizionario mondiale dei direttori della fotografia, an offline Italian language encyclopedia, as their source. There is clearly something not right here that can't be easily parsed out. I think its best to leave it at 1995 until we actually get a hold of a reference and visually confirm what it says. - @4meter4 Thank you for looking into this issue. Wikidata is a Wikimedia project that acts as a central storage for structured data of other projects such as Wikipedia. The Wikidata death date field was updated to 2 January 1995 in 2015 by an automated process (see edit here). The source for this edit was Google's Freebase, a repository that has since been discontinued. This is unfortunate since we cannot verify/validate the edit. I suspect that the contributor to the French Wikipedia article (like me) used the Wikidata information regarding the DoD. Sometimes you see that as a reference for a value edit of a Wikidata field the Wikipedia article itself is cited but that is not the case here. I also found the following url that states January 2, 1995 as the DoD: https://filmdb.it/it/scheda/roberto-gerardi. The site looks ok but I have not been able to determine whether it is a reliable source. So I agree with you to leave Gerardi's DoD at 1995. Regards, Mill 1 (talk) 09:09, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
