Work needed
[edit]This article needs more work. There's hardly any information on the guy, and a poem in French doesn't help--an English translation should be provided, otherwise it is of no use to the reader of an English-language encyclopedia.Snowgrouse (talk) 10:23, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
- I added a poem sample, and will be adding more information on him from time to time. SwampT (talk) 02:09, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
- There's no doubt lots of sources in French, relating to Proust, Wilde, Bernhardt and others of his author, theatre and nobility friends, where he's likely to turn up. I have a book on Proust at hand where he figures at length, and the author is clearly knowledgeable, she's a faculty professor of French literatuire and has written extensively and engagingly on Proust and his world (in Swedish. maybe some in French too). Part of the trouble is that the people who knew Robert de Montesquiou were fond of embellishing reality - he was too I think. I seem to recall he's the guy whose posthumous, scandal-prone memoirs elicited this remark from a noble lady friend: "You have the right to expect more from a dead man!" So, one can't just accept all the things said about him by one or two acquaintances or their friends and children. 83.254.158.105 (talk) 23:14, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
MONTESQUIE
[edit]HE WAS A GREAT MAN AND HIS POEMS ARE MARVELLOUS. BY MAYANK TRIPATHI.
Wasn't Wilde's Dorian Gray also modelled after him? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.79.70.49 (talk) 14:36, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
- Not directly, rather modeled after a John Grey. However, Jullian discusses that Wilde was aware of Monty, and that
- the character Esseintes, modeled after Monty, was an influence upon the Dorian Gray character. So "sortof".. SwampT (talk) 02:17, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
- He had a rep for being very irascible sometimes, a real drama queen. Proust captures that in his baron de Charlus. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.254.158.105 (talk) 23:41, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
