Stub might be have been right to remove, but the article still barely scratches the surface on what he has done. "Start" might be better, but the complete Mozart Piano Concertos project isn't even mentioned here, nor the critical (in the positive and negative sense) reactions to the Requiem completion. -- Michael Scott Asato Cuthbert (talk) 12:57, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Move proposal

I've never liked how this article is titled, if only because it does not reflect how he is usually referred to. Checking a few places where his name is linked, it's usually piped to simply Robert Levin, which is what everyone calls him. Very few people would even know what his middle name is, so hearing "Robert D. Levin" would cause many people to believe it's some other person being talked about. That is, using the D is more likely to mislead than to make clear, which is inimical to its supposed purpose.

So, what to change it to? If he's considered the primary holder of the name, then simply Robert Levin would do, theoretically. But that's already used for a disambig page. Plan B. I don't support Robert Levin (American pianist), because although that nicely distinguishes him from Robert Levin (Norwegian pianist), the American is notable for much more than simply being a pianist.

I think I'd prefer Robert Levin (musicologist).

I came here to look at the discussion about the naming of the article. I agree that Robert D. Levin or Robert Levin (American Pianist) doesn't fully describe him (since neither "D." nor "American" is the main part of his identify). But nor does "Musicologist" since he is equally a performer. What about changing to "Robert Levin (Pianist and musicologist)"? or with a slash? -- Michael Scott Asato Cuthbert (talk) 12:55, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
