[edit]What are the political implications of this Robert being an MP 1685-1689 and the rest being "out"? Was Robert a Tory and the rest Whigs? Choess (talk) 03:29, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
- That is what I sought to imply. AS a Naval contractor, Robert would have had a close association with Samuel Pepys and the Naval estatblishment. I have not been more explicit, becasue I do not have a source. The Foley-Harley connection seem all to have been Country Whigs. Some are curretnly designated Tory in the 1700s, because Harley governed with Tory support, but I suspect it would be better for them to be described as Country Whigs, at least part way into Queen Anne's reign. This probably needs a wider discussion elsewhere. Peterkingiron (talk) 11:07, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
