St Andrews
[edit]Am I right in thinking that it was this Robert Douglas who was offered and refused the Archbishopric of St Andrews after the restoration ? Angus McLellan (Talk) 10:54, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- I believe so - see additional information now added. 210.184.34.205 06:27, 16 November 2006 (UTC)LP
Parentage
[edit]I am having trouble interpreting this: He (Robert Douglas)was son of George Douglas, governor of Laurence, Lord Oliphant; the father was said to be an illegitimate son of Sir George Douglas of Lochleven
Is this a reference to this man Laurence Oliphant (Jacobite)? Why then is Robert a Douglas and not an Oliphant? Or why is Laurence not a Douglas? Shipsview (talk) 11:28, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
- Is this the Lord Oliphant who was held hostage in the Tower of London? And was George Douglas his 'governor' (tutor) during that period? Shipsview (talk) 19:36, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
Family
[edit]Robert's children are listed twice, but the lists differ. Can anyone help clarify? Shipsview (talk) 19:33, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
