Notability
[edit]Article topics on Wikipedia have to meet the notability guidelines for inclusion. I don't believe this branch of The Ottawa Hospital does, as I can find no independent reliable sources giving it significant coverage as required under the general notability guidelines. If I'm correct, then this article stands either to be deleted or replaced by the redirect that I had already set up here. Can you supply evidence that this facility qualifies on its own for an article?
Note that nothing prevents you from putting the information about this facility into the article about The Ottawa Hospital instead of having it here. Largoplazo (talk) 01:09, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Largoplazo: Please let me reply. My reply got deleted by your edit conflict and I'm frustrated. Me-123567-Me (talk) 01:18, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Largoplazo: This facility is far more notable than say St. Joseph's Health Centre. The in use template is so I can work on it. Now go away. You're being a pest. Me-123567-Me (talk) 01:20, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
- Your opinion of me notwithstanding, if the topic is non-notable, then Wikipedia calls for it to be deleted. It isn't notable because you've claimed it's notable. And you ought to read WP:CIVIL before conversing further with anyone here, as well as WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS before making comparisons with other articles. Largoplazo (talk) 01:27, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
- Also, @Me-123567-Me: if the facility does qualify for its own article, it would be helpful if, between you and User:Rinahaddadin, you could agree on what its name is. That other user created an article about the same facility under a different name, and you've got one name in the title and another in the text. Largoplazo (talk) 01:34, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Me-123567-Me: I just reviewed the sources you added to the article. They consist entirely of sources that aren't independent: content on the hospital's own website and self-testimonials by the facility's construction company and design company, and a listing in a government government database. I'm afraid none of these assist with a finding of notability. Largoplazo (talk) 02:40, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Largoplazo: Thank goodness that you're not the final authority on notability then. Me-123567-Me (talk) 03:11, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
3O Response: I lean very weakly toward redirection, although that would leave us in the funny situation of having an article about the transit station next to the hospital but not the hospital itself!
Moving to the larger issue, I find the WP:BLAR guideline useful here: Removing all content in a problematic article and replacing it with a redirect is common practice... If editors cannot agree, the content issues should be discussed at the relevant talk page, and other methods of dispute resolution should be used, such as restoring the article and nominating the article for Wikipedia:Articles for deletion
. Talk page discussion is ongoing, but I doubt whether it can solve a notability question. So I would suggest taking the article to AfD and hashing out notability there; editors are more likely to get feedback from disinterested third parties there than on this relatively little-trafficked talk page. - Thanks for your guidance, and the pointer to WP:BLAR. I hadn't thought WP:AFD was appropriate because, while RFD is Redirects for Discussion and MFD is Miscellaneous for Discussion, AFD is Articles for Deletion, and I see no reason why this title has to be deleted, only the article under it. But I will follow the counsel of WP:BLAR. Largoplazo (talk) 13:10, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
