Name

[edit]

I am confused by the opening paragraph, specifically its use of present and past tense. Has the name of the river been officially changed? MJFiorello 12:39, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. It was a bit confusing. I will therefore add a name section and reword that detail slightly. Hopefully I can help clarify. Guliolopez 13:23, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Many Irish placenames have changed over the centuries without any "official" sanction. The Irish Placenames Commission is researching the original names of places and on ocassion they are being changed by Ministerial order to earlier forms. This has been controversial, eg. the protests over the change from Dingle to An Daingean. (Cmount 08:41, 17 August 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Any Pics?

[edit]

Are there any Pics of the Bus incident, or anyone know where I can get some? Gherkin30 14:00, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What "Bus incident"? Are you referring to the accident on Wellington Quay in 2004? [1] Guliolopez 14:11, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Second River Picture

[edit]

The second picture doesn't seem of the usual high standard of Wikipedia photos. The bad weather makes it look blurry —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.151.94.224 (talk) 20:21, August 29, 2007 (UTC)

Don't articles like this normally get a pronunciation for the name? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.90.245.93 (talk) 23:59, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I was curious if it is navigable upstream from Chapelizod - I mean for small, leisure craft. If I hopped in a canoe, how far upstream could I paddle?

195.212.29.67 (talk) 08:44, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you hopped in at Chapelizod, you'd probably only make it upstream as far as Palmerstown - before you hit the weir and had to jump out and draw your canoe through. Depending on canoeing skills levels (and water levels), a trip from Straffan downstream to Islandbridge++ is possible. Have a look at the Liffey Descent course map. Quays

[edit]

Surely the listing of the Quays is wrong when it says "east to west", they are in fact listed west to east? If there's no objection I'll make the change in a days time. 87.198.170.2 (talk) 12:29, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Guinness

[edit]

The suggestion that only American tourists are told that Guinness is made from Liffey water, whilst amusing, is not just an assumption, but a false one. I'd argue that the same belief is prevalent in most countries where Guinness is sold, including the UK (and Ireland). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.198.171.138 (talk) 15:04, 23 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Route Map

[edit]

I added the route map which is much more geo information for the reader. You can view it on Google and Bing. DubhEire (talk) 11:11, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I referenced Google Maps and ultimately the OSI to get the start point of the river. It is hard to place exactly, and there are many tributaries feeding in at the start. Google Maps shows it starting between Kippure and Powerscourt. The OSI shows it rather less dramatic as starting nearer an elbow in the Military Road near Kippure.
