How about an introduction?
Why does this article not being with a brief description defining what the River of Lethe is? Am I crazy or should not all Wikipedia articles being with a definition. There is no summary of main points or attempt to synthesize the river of Lethe references in literature into one coherent, beginning sentence/paragraph. This seems like an omission worthy of repair and it would be great if someone more knowledgeable on the topic than I could jump in here and help out. My only knowledge of the river of Lethe is in relation to Martin Heidegger's treatment of truth as alethia. I am probably not the one to write the first paragraph but if no one else steps up to the plate I might have to. Thanks guys. --Skychildandsonofthesun (talk) 13:53, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
I just copied and pasted the first sentence from the River of Lethe main article so that we have something but I am not sure if this is either: (1) sufficient, or (2) the best possible introduction to this specific article (as it relates to references in popular culture/literature rather than the concept itself). Other input on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. --Skychildandsonofthesun (talk) 14:00, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
- I agree, the lead is lacks coverage, and the rest of the article lacks structure, supporting materials, and inline citations. The original editor has left a sadly incomplete article. At least you went and made something of a lead section. Boneyard90 (talk) 07:39, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
Housman
I just added the Housman quote. I suppose It might have been more concise just to include the first verse, where the Lethe is mentioned directly. However as the poem is only two versus long and that it is in the second verse that the themes of forgetfulnes and escape from ones former life become apparent, I included the whole thing. Though I understand if others trimmed it back to the one verse. passerby77.102.27.103 (talk) 23:23, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
