English name

All his publications in English language are under the name spelling Rinchen Barsbold. Therefore we use this as the page title, in place of the transcription of his Mongolian name Rinchyengiin Barsbold (as of WP:MON). --Latebird 19:38, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Barsbold is his given name. Rinchen is his father's name (hence the genitive form "-giin" in Mongolian). There are no honorific names in Mongolia. See Mongolian name for details. --Latebird 10:47, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And it is the business of an encyclopedia to help them in this, by countering likely false assumptions. People are ignorant: that is why they consult Wikipedia :o). Mongolia is not the only country with "unusual" naming systems. Are you going to edit potentially hundreds (if not thousands) of articles, just because you originally had the wrong idea yourself? Please get some kind of consensus on that first. --Latebird 06:33, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed it would be best if in all biographical articles consistently an indicatory system is applied making it unambiguous what status each part of somebody's name has — obviously for modern "western" names also. The name of his father would be Rinchen. The patronym of his father is then another question. But IMO it's pretty irrelevant what function which part of a name has. The only relevant question is by which part of a name a person is commonly referenced - i.e. Mao Zedong, Rinchen Barsbold, George W.
