What?

Someone posted the following nonsense:

what are the rights of A UNITED STATES SPOUSE TO AN INTERNATIONAL SPOUSE WHO REFUSSES TO INTER THE UNITED STATES, only to be married. then returns to their native country italy. the international spouse is found to be in illagel acts. the u.s. spouse seeks divorce.

I am not sure what this means, but in any case, it does not belong here. I'll leave it here, because I can't credit the author with the above comment. Can rights be transferred or assigned?

Would it be possible for a husband & wife who are no longer living together, but not yet divorced, to assign Rights to another person? Most curiously about medical care decisions, etc? not divorced due to whatever reason, but would like their parents, not the old spouse to make emergency life/death decisions? Questionable items--please review

I'm not a legal expert, but I question the inclusion of some or all of the following purportedly federal benefits; seems to me that most would fall under state laws, unless they relate to people living on federal property or people in the military. I've glanced over the GAO report, and I'm not seeing them. Maybe someone with greater legal knowledge can either add qualifying phrases to these where needed, or else delete them from the list.

• Court notice of probate proceedings
• Domestic violence protection orders
• Existing homestead lease continuation of rights
• Regulation of condominium sales to owner-occupants exemption
• Funeral and bereavement leave
• Joint adoption and foster care
• Insurance licenses, coverage, eligibility, and benefits organization of mutual benefits society
• Legal status with stepchildren
• Making spousal medical decisions
• Spousal non-resident tuition deferential waiver
• Permission to make funeral arrangements for a deceased spouse, including burial or cremation
• Right of survivorship of custodial trust
• Right to change surname upon marriage
• Right to enter into prenuptial agreement
• Right to inheritance of property
• Spousal privilege and confidential marriage communications

Rights of marriages?

Since when do marriages have rights and responsibilities? Surely, the rights are those of the married people, not the marriage itself. -- Ec5618 23:50, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

"Article"

This is not an article according to the project's standards. It is a list (complete with bullet points) of selected rights maybe or maybe not provided by the federal government (it is hard to tell since thee are few citations) and a massive See also list pointing only to the subjects relation to same sex marriages. This article should include more encyclopedic text. The text should be more than same sex issues. Since that is unlikely, editors should consider working the info into related articles while considering if a redirect or deletion is appropriate.71.35.150.157 (talk) 06:51, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
