He's hot!!! During this huge success though, the number one question about Martin has been is he gay? which has flooded chat rooms and message boards on the net. Certainly several women have come to his defense in this department, including Alejandra Guzman, who's been called the Mexican Madonna, who says to Star Magazine "He gay with me!" she laughs. "He's not effeminate at all. I never sensed anything unmanly about him. He's a great kisser and his moves are as great as his kisses!" Guzman though left Ricky to return to her former husband, which she says broke his heart, even to the point where Martin got a tattoo of a broken heart on his pelvis to remember her by. Ricky also had romantic ties to a woman who dumped pop rival Enrique Iglesias to shack up with him. Adriana Biega, who was a dancer in his video La Bomba sizzled with Ricky, saying the first time she went to his house "We kissed passionately on the mouth and couldn't wait to undress each other." Ricky's most serious girlfriend though has been Spanish TV star Rebecca de Alba. Some contend they had to down play their romance at times and maintain a distance as Sony record executives have told Martin to 'cool it' with his romance to maintain his eligible bachelor status and maintain his hot record sales. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Katiadel (talk • contribs) 04:50, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
Isn't a little unencyclopedic to mention anything about this guy's sexual orientation without factual accuracy? Camilo Sanchez (talk) 00:04, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Again - he has said straight and been seen dating only woman, repeatedly. (the guy he is on the beach with is his brother Eric, look at his fan sights and you will see the whole family was on the beach that day, including Eric and his wife and there are other pics of Eric to compare with). Go to Youtube and look up Ricky martin interviews. He talks of girlfriends and answers flat out GAY. Listed here are several articles where he says he isn't gay as well.
From http://www.rmtee.com/ archived articles 2000 (07-2001), Look 2000, By Sally Morgan, The Look 2000 " So what about all these rumours? "There's not a lot I can do about that," he says, wriggling in his seat slightly. "I guess these rumours were started by people who don't have a life, or perhaps it's because they want me to be like them and I'm not. I try not to pay attention to any of these allegations. I could have been married with kids for years or have 27 girlfriends, and if people still want to go around saying that I'm gay, they will."
And an interviewer put the question to him a few years ago
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emJgwv_nEPs
Unless he says it in a million more interviews that he's straight and is seen with a girlfriend 24/7, the mistake of not answering Barbara Walters question will always be there. He said people can fantasize however they want, so he shouldn't be upset when people now talk more of his sex life than his humanitarian or former singing work. Ricky has more non-fans following him than fans now.
- The only person who can confirm if Ricky Martin is gay is Ricky Martin himself. Leave the gossip to the gossip rags. Perhaps he is bisexual? Perhaps he likes to keep it a mystery to keep the gay fans interested? Perhaps he keeps it a secret for cultural reasons? Yelocab (talk) 10:44, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
HUH? Yelocab - He DID say he wasn't gay. Read up on it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.231.96.216 (talk) 00:59, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
- Interesting view point. A lot of stories can be deduced to gossip, BUT there are direct quotes of him saying he is straight in televised and written interviews. He may simply be alone (read his interviews linked to the main page where he talks of failed past relationships with woman and how he likes to be alone). I find it appaulling that society assumes those who prefer to be single must be gay. He has said he is straight so why can't people move on and believe him?! And it is this obsession with doubting his sexual preference that led him to say he gave up answering because the media would call him a liar anyway.
Read what he says. Look at the video interviews. He says straight more than several times. But if people want him to be a closet gay - they will refuse to believe it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ChrisVEL (talk • contribs) 18:42, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Ricky Martin's Urban Myth
Does anyone have any info on the Ricky Martin Urban Myth? I think it would be very interesting to add this to his page. The story revolves around a famous Spanish television show called "Sorpresa Sorpresa". They invite celebrities to appear on the show and then to surprise one of their fans. According to the myth, Ricky Martin was supposed to hide in a teenage girl's bedroom closet and then appear as soon as she entered the room. However, the girl adopted a strange behaviour before Ricky Martin could surprise her (I shall not go into details...). The show went off the air and no references exist concerning this situation. Everyone has heard the story or knows a friend of a friend who has seen the show live. The story has all the characteristics of an urban myth and as far as I've researched, there isn't any proof of its truthfulness. Now, should this be in this page as a reference to a myth, as a false occurence or as a true fact? You thoughts and your wisdom are welcomed... MiguelAlvarez 13:00, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Thetruthfairy 13:52, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Billboard magazine, November 5, 2006 issue,in the article "Martin's World View" by Steve Adams, Daniel Levy who is Sony BMG's Music VP of global marketing said:
"According to Sony BMG figures, the singer has shipped almost 34 million albums worldwide, with slightly less than half of that total coming from markets outside the United States".
The singer here is Ricky Martin and Sony has been his record company since 1991 or something. After 2006 he hasn't sold much, his latest MTV Unplugged has sold maybe 300,000 copies.

Life was boring. Fans and none fans won't get a big discussion on that. I'm curious why there is no mention of when and why he stopped touring in Australia many years ago. He literally just up and quit, never to regain that type of fame and seemingly very happy by his choice. Does anyone know the date he stopped touring? I know his last concert around this time, was in Sydney Australia in 2000 or 1999.

Why was the urophilia link removed?
Why was the link to the wikipedia section on Notable Urophiliacs removed? As mentioned by others the fact that Ricky gave an interview were he said he enjoyed Golden Showers is worth some kind of inclusion. The link itself was placed in the "See Also" section and was rather unobrusive so why was it removed? 164.106.195.46
Probably because Ricky's fans don't want anything on this page which could cast Ricky in any kind of negative light. I appreciate that the main contributors to the page will most likely fans of his but by whitewashing something like that just smacks of bias.

I Think that anyone who keeps insisting that someone is gay is because they're obsessed with the not facts, but gossip.
Proof is in the pictures: http://worldofwonder.net/archives/2005/May/12/ricky_martin_is_a_normal_man.wow the interviews http://www.planetout.com/news/feature.html?sernum=185, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjdwrxtfHm0&feature=related, and others if you do just a little research.
I'll believe gay when I see proof. Other wise it is gossip only.
No one's sexual orientation is mentioned in Wikipedia unless there is documented video proof or a certified legal deposition with DNA supportive evidence. It is common knowledge that Ricky Martin is a gay man, but the double standard requires us to perpetuate the myth that gays are to remain dirty and secret. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.74.74.225 (talk) 19:48, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Actually your wrong Beback! There is reference to the preferred gender in the orginal article, not the edited one referred to above. [2]
Blender: "Besides always being in a hurry what would an ex say about you?" Martin: "That I’m the love of their life! I’m the best man that they’ve ever had a gentleman who treated them like a lady." (Ricky offers the gender of his ex-partners here in the article a few questions before he talks of Golden Showers.
You should look at the full articles to get real facts. Thank you.
- Actually, saying that they enjoy it when he treats them like ladies is not the same as actually revealing their gender. He could very well be talking about guys who enjoy being treated like ladies. Since Martin came out today in an interview, that seems more likely. Stonemason89 (talk) 01:02, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Some quarters
I can, and will, include a FACT on this page - "In some quarters there is furious debate about Ricky's sexuality which has been neither confirmed or overtly denied". Whether Ricky Martin is gay or not cannot be definitively proven at this time
YES IT CAN. He answered the question and even answered why he stopped answering for a time. Go to any fansite and view his interviews. RMTEE has some the most. He was called gay no matter how often he said straight so gave up answering. I personally believe it was also a managers call because of an interview with Ines,http://rmcdadeutsch.yuku.com/forum/viewtopic/id/2876, who stated Ricky manager was upset Ricky was seen on a date."The model has confessed that hers and Ricky`s relationship are being hidden abrode, because that Ricky`s manager thinks that he is going to have less fans if it appears that Ricky has a girl friend. "The fact that I am together with Ricky is 100% true. Many people think that Ricky is a gay because that almost everywhere he appears alone. When we were cought up going out in Monte Carlo, his manager scolded us." " Google thier names and there are pics also
Given his fan based was considered 1/3 gay at LLVL time, it would make money sense his not answering the question. I've often wondered if this was the reason for Medino (former manager) being fired. It was around the time Jaleo came out and Ricky started telling interviewersabout his girlfriend. at youtube. Ricky Martin Entrevista 13, Chile parte 3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVx6QiWrIAU.'
but the fact of the debate about the issue CAN and this talk page only serves to add support to that notion (if you think Von Pie is on his/her own, I can get the many, many other people I know to drop in and add a one-line comment if necessary). Von Pie may be a little condescending and mocking at times (I was laughing out loud at his comments most of the time :-) but he has a point about some of the responses to his questions which seem to be sometimes pedantic to the point of blindness - sorry folks. Sak Mo Dee 01:43, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
- No offense intended, but if you don't like pedantry then encyclopedia-writing is the wrong field for you. If it is widely debated then we should be able to find some sources covering that debate. Which quarters? What is the debate? It's impossible to verify information without sources. -Will Beback 01:49, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
- To be pedantic - I didn't say I don't like pedantry, I just don't like pedantry that is blind. I am not making fun of Ricky Martin - he's obviously a good performer and his sexuality is none of my business. To say, however, that there is no point to be made about the debate over his sexuality is blindness in the extreme. This page itself proves the point at least a little. Sak Mo Dee 02:09, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
- In some quarters there is considerable debate about Ricky's sexuality which has been neither confirmed or overtly denied. Strong feeling exists on both sides of the argument but Ricky is presented as a heterosexual performer and is regarded as such in most mainstream media.
In which "quarters"? In what way is he presented as a "heterosexual performer"? What's your source for this? -Will Beback 02:13, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
- Just to start with: "Well, one of the most frequently asked questions on AskMen.com is: Is Ricky Martin gay? Regardless if Ricky Martin is gay or straight, the interest in him, judging by our own readers, is phenomenal." (from AskMen of course) and " Rumors have been rampant ever since "Livin' la Vida Loca" became a mega-hit. The sexy star owns a Puerto Rican restaurant in Miami's gay hotspot, South Beach, and he's been sighted in New York's Chelsea district with other hot guys. (citation - pictures - proof?)
Martin has been the object of Barbara Walters's interrogation and Camille Paglia's speculation, but no one has teased him into talking." (from planetout.com). The reason no one else has dignified these demands for "proof" that there is debate is because it is painfully obvious to most people. However, you (and others) make your point that we should try and explain it for those who DON'T keep their eye on mainstream media and their ears to the zeitgeist. Sak Mo Dee 02:24, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
- What are the links? Askmen.com has many pages, some of which are just forums and some of which are mirrored new reports, so their reliability depends on the specific citation. This page, [3], is apparently a compilation of a webpoll, which even rates his "coolness" factor, so it's hardly a reliable source. Can we find links to the Paglia and Walters interviews? Those would be notable. Who thinks he is presented as a "heterosexual performer"? -Will Beback 02:44, 17 March 2006 (UTC) These links are to forums and or speculation - NO PICTURES

Seeking proof of the debate about Martin's sexuality
I will soon include a more even-handed report on what I believe is the undeniable debate over Ricky Martin's sexuality - see quotes below. In my article amendment I will include Ricky Martin's own quotes to the contrary re: this debate (including his claim to be in love with a woman on at least one occasion and a claim from a female model re: his heterosexuality) as well as his popularly referenced ambiguous replies in interviews. I trust if the inclusion is neutral enough we will be able to debate it's merits (or not :-) through this Talk Page before it is reverted again.
I believe there is good evidence for the existence of the debate in the multitude of sources found through a simple Google search as Mr. Von Pie pointed out so sarcastically above. Web polls, forums and high profile internet magazines quoting their not inconsiderable readership (e.g. the AskMen article) may not be regarded as sources for factual information but I'm hoping they can be accepted as some proof of the existence of a debate or topic that exists in a notable portion of the general public. Either way, I present below some supposedly "reputable" sources that, in some places take it as a given that a debate on Ricky's sexuality exists in the mainstream media.
In my case, my "experience" of the whole debate over Ricky Martin's sexuality (besides the greater majority of the people I know who ever mentioned his name raising the topic of his sexuality at one time or another) comes from years of reading articles and watching "mainstream" media programs that touched on this issue. The fact that I can't call to mind the names of the magazines (whether it was Woman's Weekly, Entertainment Guide, etc.), the dates of the articles and/or the shows I watched (because the whole debate started more than 5 years ago!) shouldn't make my information completely spurious as I believe there is clearly some support for this position in various places throughout the web (as per the aforementioned Google search - e.g. ricky+martin+gay Google Search).
Here are links from The Advocate (a gay and lesbian magazine), Hello magazine, and Rolling Stone. Please note the bolded emphasis:
- "An even more curious aspect of the Martin file is that several mainstream reporters are leaping from the sexuality of his fans to that of the artist himself. In Entertainment Weekly' s first major piece on the exploding star, writer Andrew Essex asserted that Martin's cross-gender appeal has "sparked is-he-or-isn't-he watercooler debates." Meanwhile, the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel noted that "the music industry is awash in rumors he's gay." Then MTV personality Serena Altschul prodded the charmer about romance in an on-camera interview: "I'm open to love," Martin said. "Male or female?" Altschul tossed. Suddenly sounding like a Jeopardy contestant, the Latino wonder responded, "Let's go for girls."
- "...On the subject of his own love-life, Ricky remains mum. Rumours of homosexuality have surrounded the six-foot singer, whose past romances include tennis superstar Gabriela Sabatini, former MTV House Of Style host Daisy Fuentes, actress Lilly Melgar, and back-up dancer Adriana Biega.
- "...You know, the bigger you get, the more people talk about you. You've been frank about saying your music appeals to everybody, men and women. Maybe as a result of that there've been some rumors flying around about your sexuality.
- Well, this is show business. It's a lot of fantasy. You can fantasize whatever you want to be. You can fantasize however you want to [laughs]. Go for it. Be free about it. I'm not too concerned with what people say about me. You can think whatever you want. I know what I am, my beliefs, what I like and don't like. As I just said, I have the need someday to have a family. And that's something I'm going to go for. The people I care about know me. I'm happy..."
(from above Hellomagazine link) Though over the years even American interview queen Barbara Walters couldn't make Ricky talk about his private life, in 2003 the singer suddenly opened up, revealing he was in love with Mexican model and TV host Rebecca de Alba. ""We met each other 14 years ago and right now we're very happy," he told one magazine. He added: "I'm feeling ready to start a family... It would be incredible to have a 'Ricky Martin, Jr'… I would be a great dad and I'd take the kids everywhere:Sak Mo Dee 21:32, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
Just a thought - if it is ok to include a debate about a dead person's sexuality - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_James_I_of_England#Personal_relationships - then why is it a problem to include the debate about a living person?

To add to the "gay" discussion
Ok, I'm not going to read all of what's being posted here but, being a resident of Puerto Rico, I can surely say that - whoever said that the perception in Latin America and Puerto Rico is that Martin is gay - is plain wrong. There are rumors, yes, just like there are rumors of countless other artists, but there have been no clear statement from his or from anyone else. He had a long relationship with Mexican female reporter Rebeca De Alba which might be enough to keep a "gay" label from this article until he admits it. Cheers. Thief12 00:34, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- Here's the link for an old article where Martin talks about his relationship with reporter Rebeca (http://www.hellomagazine.com/music/2003/06/20/rickymartin/) Even though they broke up already, his allegations are not of a gay man. 66.50.81.112 04:02, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
Ricky Martin likes girls, not boys, he tells the Slovak magazine Plus 7 Days. Slovakia is half of the old Czechoslovakia. Its capital city is Bratislava. http://www.planetout.com/news/feature.html?sernum=185 "I am a modern man, live a full life, do not feel any barriers inside myself," Ricky says. "I perceive the contemporary world as an open forum, where nothing is taboo except criminal activity. If I were gay, why not admit it? ... I am a normal man. I love women and sex. I am a real hot-blooded Puerto Rican, but have never been attracted by sex with a man." Absent any evidence to the contrary, reporters should take him at his word and stop with the gay question.
There is also a Youtube video of an interview from an interview he did in Holland, where he said he isn't gay. But then said people should move on.
I think he said he wasn't gay as a protest to the prejudices in society that is fixed on labelling someone by thier sexuality. In the famous Barbara Walters interview, she asked if the rumors hurt, he said of course, but then said he wasn't going to bother answering the gay questions. Again, I believe he is just trying to make a point that it shouldn't matter what someone is, but he is straight.
The proof is in the pictures, not the rumors. Many pics of him with girls and I've only seen one with him on a beach with a guy. Their are a few sites where you can see the other's on the beach with him. Two girls one blond, hugging the other guy, posing for a picture and a chubby girl. It was said on a few sites to be a family beach day and the guy is his brother Eric. http://translate.google.ca/translate?hl=en&sl=es&u=http://www.farandulas.com/archives/2006/01/ricky_martin_ha_3.html&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=1&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3DRicky%2BMartin%2Bhabla%2Bde%2Bsu%2Bsexualidad%26hl%3Den —Preceding unsigned comment added by Katiadel (talk • contribs) 00:13, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Jose Menendez Connection
It's been rumored that Jose Menendez, murdered by his sons Lyle and Erik Menendez, sexually abused Ricky Martin when he was a child. Any comments or thoughts on this? Hanako 16:20, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
I read an article on it. Ricky apparently only met the man once and said it wasn't true. Someone else someone else in the group was abused but said it was someone younger than Ricky (must have been near the end of Ricky's Menudo days). Ricky was also questioned about Michael Jackson. He joined the group after they had visited the Ranch. Michael was apparently found to have a picture of Ricky Martin from a magazine.
Ricky was also linked to a manager in the group. A photographer said he saw them in bed together. Pointing out in many interviews that since they lived in hotel rooms it wasn't uncommon to see people lying across bed to talk. Ricky said again nothing sexual ever happened.

On the press, its being talked that he is dead due to kokaine. is it true? media was trying to hide this news becuz they didnt want ricky to be bad example for adults and teenagers.
- There's no such news article reporting his death. Are you sure you're not thinking of someone else? Hanako 02:14, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
- yep, it's William Hung who reportedly died as a result of a net hoax. And no, Hung is NOT dead. [4] --Kvasir 02:35, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
I cannot find any reputable news organization reporting that he has died.
clean up
this article really sucks up to him, and at the end of the article there is a bit about social work which uses the phrase "We welcome you to join our crusade as an advocate of children’s right" I need to point out that wikipedia isnt an outlet for ricky martins fans to post Lovemail about him nor advertise his charitable organisation.etc Please clean this article up 61.68.191.225 11:22, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
uhhh speaking of sucking someone spelled "successful" as "suckessful" in the opening paragraph. I am not sure how to change that so i am just telling you people.
I agree. All the editorializing is ridiculous.
"Unforgettable Living La Vida Loca"? Um, that song was forgotten like three months after it became a hit.
Seriously, shouldn't an anctclopedia just present the facts like "Living la Vida Loca was a huge #1 hit in the USA" instead of "Living La Vida Loca was An Unforgettable Song"????
The list following the link to Ricky Martin Discography is redundant and should be deleted.TJLink 21:49, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
It isn't a fan but a fact that Ricky Martin does humanitarian work. Why would it bother someone for that to be written here. It is something he is very involved in. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.231.124.82 (talk) 01:31, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
I'm not a big Ricky Martin fan, but this site seems to attract alot of haters who want to post non-facts with no links or proof and seem bent on slander.

New Quote from Ricky Martin re Gays in Music World
According to The Associated Press on 30 March 2007 (http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/arts/AP-People-Ricky-Martin.html), "Martin defended the right of pop stars to come out of the closet, saying he felt solidarity with Christian Chavez of Mexican band RBD, who recently said publicly that he is gay. 'Life is too short to live closed up, guarding what you say,' said Martin -- whose sexual orientation has been the subject of speculation -- in an interview with The Associated Press. Christian 'has to be free in many aspects. I wish him much strength.'" Could someone insert this into the article in an appropriate fashion?
- Why? --Mel Etitis (Talk) 21:04, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
I think this settles once and for all that Ricky isn't gay. He says "Life is too short to live closed up...", unless he followed that with a confession of being gay, I believe it safe to say he was stating that if he were gay he would say so.
http://www.planetout.com/news/feature.html?sernum=185, He stated in an interview with Slovac magazine ""I am a modern man, live a full life, do not feel any barriers inside myself," Ricky says. "...If I were gay, why not admit it? ... I am a normal man. I love women and sex. I am a real hot-blooded Puerto Rican, but have never been attracted by sex with a man." Everytime an artist supports the gay community they are automatically labelled gay, no matter what they say. Ricky could say straight a million times and people would still question his sexuality.
Article's name
Why is this page titled "Ricky Martín" instead of "Ricky Martin", because there are other articles that mention him as "Ricky Martin", for example Ricky Martin discography, Ricky Martin (1991 album), Ricky Martin (1999 album), and Ricky Martin (album). David Pro 21:46, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Because someone was smart enough to know how to use the proper Spanish language diacritical (accent mark). His name is mar-TEEN, not MAR-nuhn. Kirkpasf 00:34, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- And of course, Ricky is a genuine Spanish name ! Does he spell his surname with the accent or not ? -- Beardo (talk) 18:25, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- Ricky is far, far, far more well-known as Ricky Martin than as Ricky "Martín". SamEV (talk) 06:48, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- The subject's official websites don't use the accent. What's our source for him spelling his with an accent? ·:· Will Beback ·:· 07:39, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- Maybe someone saw his IMDb bio, where his last name is given as "Martín", which I suppose is correct. But everywhere else it's "Martin", even in the Spanish version of his bio on his website.[5] It's the name he uses professionally and by which the world knows him. This article should be renamed back. SamEV (talk) 09:13, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
ricky Martin is gay - will this do?
Skin care specialist Ole Henriksen recently was asked in an interview who he’d spend a romantic vacation with other than his partner.
Henriksen replied: "I’d go for Stig Tøfting [former Danish soccer player], but since he’s straight, I’d say my client Ricky Martin."
Here's the link (it's in Spanish): [6] 86.155.207.81 (talk) 22:40, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- More of the same: In an interview with Swedish gay magazine Salonk, [Ole Henriksen] the Hollywood-based Danish facialist said that he knew for a fact that Ricky Martin is gay.
- Henriksen was also quoted as saying: "He (Ricky Martin) is a bit more open about it these days than he used to be (…) I don’t know if he has a boyfriend".

- Thant's interesting, but its still basically gossip. We should hold out for a statement by the subject himself. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 07:41, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Clearly just someone trying to get publicity. How could he say Ricky is gay if he admitted he hasn't seen him with a boyfriend?. And Martin has said he is straight. (Interviews referred to here and on other sites).
vandalism
i would like to make a suggestion that due to the ridiculous amount of vandalism by anonymous users that this page be semi protected so the vandalism would come to a slow down this has been going on for some time and would encourage users to make an account and make useful changes--Wikiscribe (talk) 18:45, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm a little confused. In the personal info section I keep posting with correct sources, the information regarding his personal life. Simply referring to his long time girlfriend and that his PERSONAL LIFE was the subject of speculation. I thought it was constantly being deleted because I wasn't listing the sources properly, but that I believe has been rectified and on other Wiki sites, people will simply fix the citation set up, they won't delete your post.!. Why is it constantly being deleted? It is relevant and to the point and links to facts. Thanks.
The ricky martin gay section from 2005 should be removed in my opinion. There are no links to facts as the editor discusses with this person and it is clearly some hateful person (gay or jeolous straight man or perhaps someone upset with Martins speaking out against the mafia like child sex slave industry). It doesn't have links and the wiki editor disproves the person at every point, so why not remove it so people don't waste thier time reading some deranged persons rant. Merging awards section to the main article
I am absolutely FOR moving the awards page to the main page. It makes no sense to have it on a separate page. In most cases in Wikipdia, awards are on the main page anyhow. werldwayd (talk) 16:36, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
Merge!
I totally agree .. that the awards should be merged/moved to the main page. makes more sense!
Death
I heard he died recently? Noz
1999 Grammy performance
Why doesn't this article make more mention of his breakthrough performance at the 1999 Grammy Awards. It not only put him on the map, but is seen by many (including a recent PBS documentary Latin Music USA) to be the defining moment of the recent Latin Crossover faze. It was probably one the most famous moments of Ricky Martin's career. In fact, it deserves a lot of mention. --Mezaco (talk) 06:08, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Can we not say "homosexual, puerto rican singer" he is a Puerto rican singer who happens to be homosexual. Homosexuality isn't the defining characteristic of a human being.

Edit request from Tpetdoctor, 30 March 2010
{{editsemiprotected}} Please change "Ricky Martin admitted his homosexuality" to "Ricky Martin came out as a proud gay man" because the phrase "admitted his homosexuality" implies shame or revelation of something bad. "Coming out" is a phrase that is more consistent with the tone of his own voice. Tpetdoctor (talk) 03:22, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
- I could not find a way to word it using "coming out" as a phrase. I have, however, changed the article to say: "Martin publicly acknowledged his homosexuality..." which I hope still resolves the issue.
- Done Avicennasis @ 03:43, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
"Proudly gay" is not exactly neutral, "Martin publicly acknowledged his homosexuality..." seems like a more acceptable and neutral edit. VanPunker (talk) 03:47, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
- I think in this case, where his public acknowledgement stated he thinks of himself as being a fortunate gay man, that the word proud is called for, he's the one saying it, so it's not an editorial view. But what's written now is fitting. Dollvalley (talk) 08:55, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
- The term Martin used was homosexual, rather than gay. The article should reflect Martin's wording. Jim Michael (talk) 18:01, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Not yet perfectly precise
I'm glad to see serious attempts to find a proper, respectful wording. Yet, far from trying to bother anyone I must say, the current result still is a tiny little bit improveable.
Psychologically, coming out still is not the precise term, as it denotes the process of becoming aware a not-heterosexual orientation (bi- or homosexual) oneself. What can follow this is another process: that of telling not only close persons, and the term for it is going public. So, a perfect title for this part of the article would be Coming out AND going public.

Wrong quotation from Rolling Stone
"In a March 29 interview for Rolling Stone, Martin was quoted saying that "these years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within and that this kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn’t even know existed." -> The article published on the Rolling Stones website is not an interview, and they quote from Ricky Martin written (not spoken) statement on his website: http://rickymartinmusic.com/portal/news/news.asp?item=114532 --87.160.58.32 (talk) 15:44, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Roman Catholic?
The article states he grew up Catholic, but does not say what his current religion is. He is in Cat:Puerto Rican Roman Catholics, but without info in the article to that effect. If he is currently RC, the Personal life section should say so, along with a ref to support it. Jim Michael (talk) 18:01, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
- The usual assumption is that one continues to belong the same same religion unless there's information to the contrary. Some entries in that category don't even mention the religion, as they should. See Larry Seilhamer Rodríguez and Jennifer González. Per WP:BLPCAT: "Categories regarding religious beliefs and sexual orientation should not be used unless the subject has publicly self-identified with the belief or orientation in question; and the subject's beliefs or sexual orientation are relevant to his notable activities or public life, according to reliable published sources." Even if the subject is still a Catholic, it's not clear that his religious faith is relevant to his notable activities or public life. Therefore I'm going to remove it from here and from those two politicians. Will Beback talk 18:15, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
- In Roman Catholicism, one is always a Catholic (even if not practicing) unless one formally leaves the church. Therefore, even though it is unclear whether or not Martin is still a practicing Catholic, the Church still recognizes him as a member since he was baptised and confirmed (requirments for being an altar boy, as the article mentions he was an altar boy). --Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 23:19, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Should such info be in the lead? Hundreds of celebrities who have Wikipedia articles have appeared in such lists, but in most cases that info is not in the article's lead. Jim Michael (talk) 18:01, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

His article on Simple English Wikipedia contains a great deal of praise of him and claims which are biased in his favor and unreferenced. Could someone who knows enough about him to improve it and neutralize it to a satisfactory standard please do so? Jim Michael (talk) 20:02, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for catching that. It turned out that an editor had simply copied a large block of text from the subject's own website. I've deleted it, though that leaves only a single paragraph of text. Will Beback talk 21:48, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
