Arrested Development

His appearance on the episode "S.O.B.s" was as himself, which suggests he was also appearing as himself on "Exit Stragey." There is only a handwritten sign on the front of the podium that says "Professor Munch." In a show that above all else is noted for breaking the 4th wall, it would seem that he is appearing as Richard Belzer, celebrity and not John Munch. Hence, it cannot be considered part of the "Munch on other shows" tally. Left it alone for now however. RoyBatty42 23:00, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Doesn't Belzer wear transitional lenses in his glasses instead of just traditional sunglasses as the article states?

EDITING HELP, PLEASE

I am uncertain about the protocol for noting a text error/lacuna. In the sentence:

"Both parents died while he was young: His mother died of cancer when Belzer [something missing here] and his father committed suicide when Belzer was 22."

occuring in the first paragraph, I have placed "[something missing here]" to note that something is missing there. Otherwise we have:

"Both parents died while he was young: His mother died of cancer when Belzer and his father committed suicide when Belzer was 22."

Can't find any record of the movie "Man in the Moon"

I have removed the sentence that references the movie [(However, despite appearing as such in the film Man on the Moon, Belzer was not the first host of the show. "physical abuse"

The background section states that his mother was physically abusive. In the cited article says Belzer says that she hit him/physically disciplined him. Is there a cite that the discipline rose to "abuse", in a legal or other sense? It seems things like this are jumped upon nowadays, quite agree it's not 100% clear. The cited source refers to a 1993 interview where Leonard Belzer stated "Our mother didn’t know how to love her sons appropriately... She always had some rationale for hitting us" and "Richard said his comedy was a defense mechanism against their mom’s overly stern hand. 'My kitchen was the toughest room I ever worked. I had to make my mom laugh or I’d get my ass kicked,' Richard said of his mother, who died in 1964. 'I visited her grave nine years ago, and I said, ‘I forgive you,’ but it had no meaning because I didn’t forgive her'", but this is far from clear that this "stern hand" necessarily constituted "abuse" as opposed to "too-harsh parenting the Belzer brothers resented", although of course the lines aren't firmly established with regard to this kind of thing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.144.68.218 (talk) 02:56, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

Talk Show Host?

I seem to remember him hosting a short-lived late-night talk show at one point, maybe around 1990? Seemed like it was either on ABC or syndicated. Am I wrong? Jafafa Hots 06:10, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

It was earlier than that. I recall it because he once had Hulk Hogan as a guest in the mid-80's. Hogan demonstrated a sleeper hold on him that knocked Belzer out, causing him to fall to the floor unconscious and bust his head open. He later sued Hogan, but IIRC, it was settled out of court. Belzer was part of a morning radio team with Scotty Brink, "Brink and Belzer" in the late 70s on WNBC 660 NYC during the period when Don Imus was rehabilitating himself in Cleveland. Anyone have specifics?

Hot Properties (sitcom) is a cancelled ABC sitcom featuring Nicole Sullivan and Sofía Vergara. Richard Belzer was never part of it.
