Conflicting views on how Wikipedia decides what is companion or not

[edit]

A recent edit on this article has added a hidden note saying do not add Jack to Companion section of infobox unless credited in opening titles.

However, at Talk:The Empty Child#Captain Jack, Companion or not?, the discussion we had clearly ends with the fact that whether a character is companion or not is down to sources and reliable citations NOT down to opening titles because “basing anything on opening titles is original research”. This is exactly the opposite of what’s been said on the hidden note.

So which of these two arguments follows Wikipedia Guidelines and therefore which of these articles is wrong and needs to be edited?

Consensus of WP:TV is that anyone credited in the main opening credits is main cast (i.e., for Doctor Who in particular, that would mean Doctor or Companion), and that anyone else credited in the closing credits are recurring and/or guest cast. WikiProject consensus overrules a minor discussion that two editors contributed to.
If, however, sources state otherwise, then yes, we use those, as verfiable sources then (typically, but not always) overrule a community consensus. However, no source has been provided stating that Harkness is a companion in this particular 2021 episode. -- /Alex/21 12:49, 26 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have indeed restored Barrowman to the Companion cast based on his opening credits inclusion. However, the rest of my above post remains true. -- /Alex/21 20:08, 1 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why is this page un-editable? It can't be a controversial topic, the show aired yesterday only. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.95.222.115 (talk) 17:15, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It's due to significant vandalism, such as repeated insults directed at Chibnall in the plot section before a plot summary had been written. The protection is only for 48 hours and you can make edit requests on this talk page, ideally by saying "this portion wikitext should be replaced by this next text [for this reason if (non-obvious)]". Ping me and I'll be happy to respond ASAP. — Bilorv (talk) 19:13, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If, however, the vandalism continues after those 48 hours, I'll be requesting RPP to reinstate the protection (the next level is a week, I think). -- /Alex/21 01:17, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Ood stories" and "Weeping angel stories" templates?

[edit]

Someone added the Ood stories and Weeping Angel Stories templates to the bottom of the article. I'm just wondering why that is? I don't recall the Ood or Weeping Angels appearing in this episode. ―JochemvanHees (talk) 15:54, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

They appear in the prison, along with a Silent, a Pting, and, I believe, a Sycorax. DonQuixote (talk) 17:26, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, right. I don't know if that counts as a story though. ―JochemvanHees (talk) 18:01, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's a minor appearance. However, it really should be mentioned in the article proper, although I know we're not keen on continuity sections these days for good reason... a note from the plot section, maybe? U-Mos (talk) 21:10, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
