Characters
[edit]This is a response to User:74.33.244.149, who has been adding a lot of interesting text of various Labyrinth characters to this page. I think it's all fascinating, but I've removed a lot of it because it has more to do with the franchise as a whole, not the manga itself. A lot of the text is also speculative interpretation and original research. Annie D 00:44, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
It's not speculation. Everything I posted was based on content provided by the likes of Brian Froud. I gave specific references to everthing I added. Maybe if you actually read it you would notice that. I was giong to add content about characters specific to the manga today.
By the way, all the characters of the Franchise WILL appear in the Manga and many have already, that's why it's necessary.
Funny how a similar excuse is given why people only want the characters of Jareth and Sarah listed for the actual film. So there's no place for all the secondary characters because of some elitests who forget them?
Would you rather I wait until part 3 is Published to let anyone know who the Hell these characters are? Because last I checked Sarah does appear in the Manga as does Irene, many of these goblins, Hoggle, Moppet, Jareth, Toby, ect..
Jareth taking a human guise is used in the Manga, the reference to other media is how that concept came about...
It was first hinted at in the Labyrinth novelization. David Bowie expanded on it in the music videos. And then came the manga.
- Considering you have added this information to the main Labyrinth (film) article already, it doesn't have to be repeated here. You can summarise the content and then add a to it. There's no need for repetition. Annie D 22:21, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, how about this. The article has to contain information only pertaining to the manga in its current form. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, so just because you believe or know the characters will appear or are being interpreted by the creators of the manga exactly according to previous canon, but you don't have citations to back it up, they still don't belong here. I'm still going to have to clean this up because the formatting is all over the place and there can't be a repetition of information since it's already available in the main article. -- Annie D 22:39, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
- Just so you know, sentences like: "The likelihood of Jareth being a faery is the result of character traits given to Jareth by conceptual artist, Brian Froud, well known for his art involving faeries and faery creatures. If this is true than Jareth has a vulnerability to iron as a weapon or restraint" are original research. Annie D 00:19, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
All right, I saw the changes you made and I agree with them. I suppose I just react badly to bad edits. You should see some of the stuff I found on the page for the Lestat musical. 90% of it's content was wrong, especially in the plot summeries. Somene even kept spelling various characters' names wrong. It was a mess.
I got the impression that Moppet was a very prominant character, but there isn;t much information on her.
Irene Williams
[edit]I don't know where this Irene-as-abusive idea comes from. In the manga itself, she is not shown as neglectful, just very strict and unaffectionate. She spanks a young Toby for misbehaving and scolds him to do his schoolwork. Although we have not seen a single loving gesture from her toward her son, assuming that she's abusive might be too much. Darkfrog24 (talk) 22:44, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- I would consider this version of Irene as being emotionally abusive towards Toby, but that's just me. Annie D (talk) 00:43, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Jareth in Love
[edit]As cool as it would be to have Jareth's ideas hammered out, the manga doesn't actually make clear that he's fallen in love with Sarah. He's fixated on her and he's referred to as having lost his heart, but his reactions show as much resentment as anything else -- although he certainly does seem to want her to love him. IMHO, the L-word's got to wait till they tell us more. Darkfrog24 (talk) 22:44, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
I sort of got that impression from the original rejected script of the movie that's floating around the internet. The ending was quite different. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.19.236.142 (talk) 12:57, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- Alternate script, you say? Of course, I would have to read it myself before drawing any conclusions, so, purely in the interests of improving this article and not at all to satisfy my fannish cravings, kindly tell me where to find it. That being said, information from an alternate version of the script probably shouldn't go in this article, but it might deserve a mention in the one about the film. Critical Response?
[edit]I can't believe that I didn't think of this before, but I was rereading the page history and found that "gross misrepresentation of the movie" paragraph that has (rightly, IMHO) been removed from the current version. Does anyone know where to find the critics' and fans' reactions to Return? We could use more out-of-world info and it would provide a way to mention fan disappointment without violating the WikiCode. Darkfrog24 (talk) 21:12, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- I would try standard American literary sources, like Publishers Weekly and such. Because of its origin and legacy, RtL probably got more reviews than most comics from Tokyopop. I'd also check a few of the "anime" type sites, like Anime on DVD (look for manga reviews) and Anime News Network, both of which are considered reliable sources. I recommend visiting Wikiproject Comics (where I come from), which has a list of comics-oriented resources available. Some won't be applicable, but some are quite general. Also try a google search of the title with quotation marks around it, too, passing by the online retailers. Hope this helps. :) --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 21:21, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'd look at the reviews on Amazon. Personally, I addore the creations of Moppet & Spittledrum, but abhore the very idea of Mizumi, even her name overmanganizes the series & gives it a Never Ending Story II feel to the plot. One of the biggest negatives you'll find are complaints of how amerime the inner art looks compared to the brilliant & misleading covers. I haven't been able to get volume 3 yet, for economic reasons, but since a 4th volume was planned suddenly, the series can't have done too badly with the public. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.19.236.142 (talk) 12:52, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- I don't know if Amazon book reviews are considered reliable, but it would be nice to find a suitable source so that we can talk about the reactions of different parts of the fandom. Darkfrog24 (talk) 21:15, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Also in the movie Jarthe said that his "heart is gone" but insted he doesnt love Sarah?i got a little confused because it seemed like they whould fall in love and marry but why does he marry someone else instead of Sarah? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.56.4.235 (talk) 00:45, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
Updates?
[edit]There's supposed to be 4 mangas, right? All references seem to end with volume 2. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.19.236.142 (talk) 12:53, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- That is because volumes three and four have yet to be released. Darkfrog24 (talk) 21:12, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
Pop Culture Section
[edit]I checked Wikipedia's page on the matter, and I am confident that adding a pop culture section is not vandalism. I'm certainly open to discussing the matter, but let's not equate this with malice and gibberish. 24.187.189.117 (talk) 01:40, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
Professor Nymblie
[edit]It's been a while since I've seen NeverEnding Story II but are we sure that Professor Nymblie is named after that Nimbly from said movie? The name is pretty generic-sounding, and the characters don't seem too similar. Darkfrog24 (talk) 01:56, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
Ablation
[edit]I notice that the magic spell "ablation" is linked (nice) to the medical sense of the word. However, considering Mizumi is from Moraine, Esker is her icy mercenary, her ablations are Drumlin and Moulin, her beasts are called Kuhlaups, and because Mizumi is always moving water around, I think it would be more accurate to link to the link to the glacial sense. 96.35.138.74 (talk) 05:52, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
Unsourced stuff
[edit]Hi. I'm putting the cultural reference/pop culture section here since it is entirely unsourced. To go back in the article, the statements will need reliable sources proving them. Kaguya-chan (talk) 19:38, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
- The source is Return to Labyrinth itself. One can look at the books and see that these statements are made. While you could certainly make an argument that someone might need to prove that "six colored suns" comes from Wizard of Oz with a tag to Wizard of Oz, statements such as "Character X mentions Hobbits," are fine on their own.
