I think the first sentence "research program (UK: research programme) is a professional network of scientists conducting basic research" is just plain wrong and out of synch with the rest of the article. AFAIU Lakatos's research program is a set of ideas / theories / claims about the relevant scientific discipline as well as, crucially, set of ideas about "what to do next" in light of these current claims / knowledge. This latter point is, in fact, what makes it a "program" - it is a general plan / direction proposing what is and is not worth investigating in light of the current claims / knowledge posited by the program. Scientists themselves figure in this only to the extent that they carry out a particular research program; and a single scientist can be involved in multiple ones. 76.119.30.87 (talk) 05:17, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
