Ideas for article
[edit]- Great material about German market here: http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/news/article/2008/07/biogas-flows-through-germanys-grid-big-time-53075
- Discuss when it's better to convert gas into electricity than injecting into grid.
- European variations in density of the gas grid - which countries is this well developed?
Synthetic natural gas should link here, but not completely redirect. There is significant interest, for example, in coal-based synthetic natural gas produced from synthesis gas, which is far from what could be considered renewable. Mrweatherbee 02:24, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Discussion of RNG not being "renewable" is incorrect: definition of renewable is that the proximate source of the energy is replenished by nature, rather than fossil-based. Point re combustion emissions is correct, but that is different than saying RNG is not renewable.
Argument FOR merging
[edit]I disagree coal-based natural gas is covered in Coal_gasification and the Synthetic natural gas page should be merged here with a re-direct. Incrediblehunk 14:49, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
and AGAINST
[edit]Being in the maigin of the industry I notice that the many coal-to-methane plants that are being built at present and which are going to be built in the near future in China/SKorea are always called "SNG plants" and not Coal gas - and of course it is not renewable gas. - There needs to be a double merge, part to renewable gas, part to coal gas. Mostly SNG is an exercise in branding. User:Fred Bauder Talk 13:45, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
Natural ?
[edit]I'd be in favor of merging this article into anything that didn't call manufactured gas "natural".Dougmcdonell (talk) 19:22, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
Should this article focus more on upgrading?
[edit]This article seems to go in a few different directions. A lot of the article seems to be summarizing the elements of biomass gasification and biogas production from anaerobic digestion. The production section should discuss the conversion of syngas or biogas to RNG through various upgrading methods - membrane, PSA, cryogenic separation, etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RedactedSagan (talk • contribs) 05:19, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
